DH has had stomach problems for a long time, doc did a blood test and found helico bacter, he was given the triple treatment and felt fine for a couple of weeks, then he started feeling ill again, he was backa nd forth to the docs, fobbed off with peppermint tablets and the like, they couldnt do another blood test coz it will still show in his blood because it has been there already and the antibodys are present. Anyway he ended up going for a barium swallow, came back fine, was given a breath test for the h pylori, came back negative, hes still veyr ill, cant eat properly, has lost weight as a result, doc gave him another set of eradication meds on friday as she agreed it sounds like the bacteria is still present, the meds are making him sick but he will have to keep taking them. Does anyone have any experiance of helico bacter? if so could i hear your stories on how u felt with it and if the meds worked, am getting worried its something more serious but it couldnt be could it? the barium was fine, hes ahd full blood done checking liver/kidneys/thyroid/sugar levels etc etc.

I know it can cause stomach ulcers has he been checked to see if he has one of these?

loopylou6 · 04/03/2008 09:26

yep, the barium would of picked up on ulcers, i am wondering if it could be more bowel related

may be an inflammatory bowel condition, or crohns or ulcerative colitis

Yes, I had this and the eradication treatment worked for me.

Maybe he has a food intolerance of some kind like coeliac. I know I was checked for this also while having stomach looked at under scope. HTH

Sorry about the late reply.

It's quite a number of years since I had the treatment (maybe ten). It certainly didn't make me throw-up, although the antibiotics are quite strong. Flagyl is one of the antibiotics. You absolutely CANNOT drink alcohol with it as it will make you throw up.

Has he been checked for food intolerances? Coeliac?
