Statins/neurology appointment advice

I’m confused. Following a neurology appointment my bloods were checked and the cholesterol test came back 7.7 and it was suggested I make an appointment to see my GP to start on statins.

Is 7.7 high? I asked the GP and he said it may be hereditary and no amount of dieting or changes will change this. The report (from the neurologist) also mentioned about two small micro haemorrhages in the pons ..I’m not even sure what this means? The GP said this can happen but didn’t seem concerned but said that’s probably why the hospital suggested statins??

Anyone please, what does this mean? I’d much prefer not to go on statins but obviously realise if it’s necessary, of course I will just confused what he means about the tiny micro haemorrhages. I tried re-asking and GP repeated leaving me none the wiser.

If it's familial its even more important to take meds...no amount of diet change or exercise will help
