Cystitus /UTI questions

I have felt a bit sore for a over a week and a half, a little bit of irritation like thrush but mainly pain on urination.
So I went to the drs on friday, and without asking for a sample she prescribes me a 3 day course of antibiotics. But now I think there is a bit of blood in my urine (but not 100% sure, as maybe its spotting?) My period lingered this time, and kept starting up again.
I think I need to go back to my gp, but just wondered if any one has had anything similar.

One of my questions is how do you know which orifice you are bleeding from. There is a bit of blood on the tissue paper and drops in the loo, but can you tell where it came from?

Put a tampon in a see if there's any blood on it a few minutes later?

I did insert my finger for that reason, sorry for tmi, no blood there, which is what makes me think it is probably in the urine.
I would have thought that I would feel more ill if it is a UTI that hasn't responded to antibiotics though

I often have blood in my urine if I get cystitis. Sometimes I feel ill as well but not always. My symptoms can range from just pain on urination to mild lower abdominal pain and on a bad day nausea, fever and headache. Go back to your GP.

Dustystar can I ask you just one more question please. When I have had cystitus before it hurt throughout urination. This time, it hurts just at the end, have you had this?

It depends on how much i am drinking. If I haven't drunk much and my urine is quite concentrated it stings straight away but if I have drunk enough then I often don't really notice the stinging until I finish going.

oh okay, I have been drinking loads of water to try and flush my system out. I will go and see the gp tomorrow

For any one who is interested in my very boring urinary tract details. I think now that the bleed is vaginal.
Still sore despite getting antibiotics as well.
Now worried it might be something serious. What other reasons for bleeding from there do you know of (except periods) and implantation bleeds

Haematuria (blood in urine) is quite common and usually an indication of infection. Your local hospital may have a clinic specifically designed to check this out. Your GP refers you. You go in as a day case, have a battery of tests and get the some results on the day etc.

I would advise you to go back to your GP.

But I now think it is not in my urine but some sort of vaginal infection. Not thrush though.
I will keep taking the antibiotics for a few days and then go back.
probably stressing over nothing, but I am in such a lot of pain, and its been going on for over 2 weeks now

Go back to your GP overrun. Its probably just an infection but its best to get these things checked out - especially if you are in apin.

DettaJnr · 05/03/2008 20:40

It takes at least 24hrs to feel the effect of the antibiotics. They may not be the right one.

As DS says, go back to GP and have it checked out. Two weeks is too long to be feeling like that.

Thanks I will do
