I have an appt booked with a GP for next week, but as I’m panicking I wondered if anyone had any experience with my symptoms? I’m trying to calm myself down over the weekend as I struggle with health anxiety.
Last week was a bad diet week- running around after my toddler and eating bread (sourdough), donuts and carby snacks.
The day after eating quite a bit of bread, I noticed period type pains in my upper abdomen. They were mild over the weekend and then from Monday, every time I eat, I get painful bloating from the bottom of my bra down to my belly button and gurgling/wind pains over my stomach etc. I’ve taken windeze capsules which get me back to normal within 30 mins or so.
The issue is, every I eat (except for fruit), my stomach inflates and I’m full of gas. Today i’ve had to run to the loo too.
Does it sound like ibs to you?

IBS seems to be a cover-all name for any digestive/bowel issue with bloating and gas being the main symptoms.
In my own experience, too much bread, dairy or sometimes spicy food can set it off. Also worry or anxiety. I manage it by limiting the above foods, make my own bread, and have little alcohol. Fizzy anything is bad, too. It's a pita. ☹️

Yes, that sounds like my IBS symptoms too. You need to avoid the carbs and sugar as much as you can.

BIWI · 08/09/2023 18:23

BTW another trigger for mine is stress, so you need - as far as you possibly can! - to try and calm yourself down until you see your GP.

I’ll cut dairy this weekend. I tried kefir but it isnt helping.
ive read good things about peppermint oil capsules too so may grab some!
thank you so much for your advice!

I can feel myself tensing my stomach muscles in stress which obviously isnt helping in the slightest. i hate anxiety!

Yes sounds like symptoms but not everyone's are the same!
I found cutting out gluten and dairy helped mine and unfortunately stress is the biggest trigger.
Hope you get some answers soon.

You need a camera up your arse , probably.

I was diagnosed over thirty years ago . No camera . But I think it's ubiquitous now.

Had a really bad evening with it. Ate dinner (fish, veg and rice), was fine, then 2 hours later painful bloating, had to run to the loo and lots of nausea. As soon as i was off the loo, nausea went and pain started to subside. Woke up feeling back to normal again… until I eat.
i had no idea that if this is ibs, that this is what people deal with for months on end. Its horrible :(

This does sound a bit like IBS - but get it checked out to rule out other stuff (gallbladder etc). After a particularly bad diet (too much dairy and gluten) it can take a while for my insides to get back to normal. The loose bowels is then quite often a relief! Stuff that helps me is fizzy water (nothing with sugar) - this seems counter intuitive but I feel like adding some gas creates a critical mass which helps it then be released - and it helps to keep hydrated. Also leaving 16 hours between meals overnight to help the gut not be overloaded also seems to ease a bad phase. You may be able to track it down to something like a food sensitivity - some people have success with low fodmap.

Was the fish battered? I can't even eat batter 🤦🏽‍♀️
You'll probably end up having to have the magic eye up your bottom, it can be a lengthy process but worth it when you get to the bottom of it
Make a diary each day of what you're eating.
Onions and tomatoes are a big trigger of mine too.
Then if you see a pattern you'll be able to pinpoint what's upsetting you.

Drinking hot water with a slice of lemon in it can be really soothing, and slow down/stop the cramping

EliJ90 · 09/09/2023 19:53

It was breaded :(
Ive been following the low fodmap diet today… fine with fruit, seeds, cucumbers and celery. Decided to have brown rice and chicken for lunch and still struggling now. SO much painful gas (which wont budge) and loose bm (sorry if tmi).
really hard having a sore, bloated stomach and an energetic toddler… although maybe distraction is key?!

I dunno. I think there's a bug going round. I had ten days of feeling a bit queazy, bloated, urgency and diarrhea. Not bad enough to stay home in bed, but just slightly yuk, like a hangover or morning sickness. People say the new COVID strain could be presenting this way too. However, I tested negative.

Good probiotics and intermittent fasting, limit caffeine, yoga (breathing and poses like child’s and happy baby- there’s some trippy videos on youtube you can do with a toddler
), lots of water.
. But also change drs if they wont take you seriously. Or phone for same day apt.

@Allthatglittersisntart what would be considered a good probiotic? I'm looking at trying to lessen symptoms by taking peppermint oil as well as probiotics

Imagineit · 20/01/2025 17:55
