...because i am having a liver scan. BUT i am 38 weeks pregnant and i get heartburn if i leave too long btween meals. Can i still have chewable gaviscon tablets? or does that count as eating?

I would ring your GP, or failing that the hospital department who are doing your scan, and ask - but I had a liver scan years ago, and seem to remember it wasn't that strict.

Besides, I'm no expert, but would imagine a tablet taken this morning, or early afternoon, would be well out of your system by 4pm! I was on Zantac for heartburn when pregnant, in large doses - prescribed by OB - you could ask them about that, if its less 'bulky' in terms of 'eating'??

Elibean · 03/03/2008 10:23

OMG, just remembered conversations with you ages ago, congratulations!!

MerlinsBeard · 03/03/2008 10:26

oooh noooooo.......

ring them.....surely this isn;t 'right' to leave a pregnant woman this long between meals. not least cos of a drop in blood sugars and dizzyness (which happens to everyone, pregnant or not).

can you still drink tho? if so, then maybe smoothies are ok???

MerlinsBeard · 03/03/2008 10:41

i can only have water

tis stupiod me going anyway. they know the problem is OC and i won't get the results for 2 weeks by which time i will have a 2 week old

Psychomum5 · 03/03/2008 19:12

sooooooooooooooooooooo

how did it go???????????????

MerlinsBeard · 03/03/2008 19:20

liver looks fine on scan but the results will be officially ready tomorrow.

Had bloods taken in ADU and had to tell them that i had hardly eaten and she said that was advice for NONE PREGNANT people!

Blimey. How annoying, re the food.

I'm glad your liver is ok, but sorry you have probable OC - I had dreadful, unforgettable itching for the last 10 weeks of my last pregnancy, and although it didn't turn out to be OC (endless checks) I can imagine how that might be.

OC, starving hungry, heartburn and very pregnant? They're lucky you didn't eat THEM

MerlinsBeard · 03/03/2008 19:30

its definatly OC, i had a trainee ordering my tests and i think he ordered everything to do with livers! I have also been tested for all kinds of Hepatitis, CMV and EBV as well as sonmethings that i cannot make out. ALl of which, unsurprsingly, came out clear!

Maybe he used to work for bupa lol!

Well, I don't know MoM, we maaaaay allow you to have a bit of a snuggle, your tea and toast, bit of a breather before you post

Psychomum5 · 03/03/2008 19:43

that you are 'ok', as much as can be what with everything going on.

about the eating thing tho.......how can they possibly make a mistake like that?? surely they must deal with pregnant women with OC enough to know not to give advice like that?

and also.....
