So I’ve been bitten or stung in my bum!! Two days ago - completely unprovoked. I couldn’t find or see little bugger that did it whilst I was minding my own business.
it hurt like hell, now it’s all red and swollen. I literally look like a baboon! Problem is, I’m taking antihistamines and it’s not getting better. Can someone comfort me please? Is it a wasp sting? Has someone’s had any similar? Obviously not worth GP’s time… but it huuuurts!! one pic - how it started and another one - how it’s going.

Dd had been stung 3 times in 2 days by wasps. They looked similar to this

SaltyCrisps · 04/09/2023 18:50

Ouch :-( Which way round should the pic be? Is it getting bigger or smaller?

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/09/2023 18:53

Have you tried hydrocortisone cream? Any steroid cream would do if you have any in
Otherwise an antihistamine cream.
I have heard that the older antihistamines like Piriton (chlorphenamine) are more effective on skin than the newer non-drowsy ones. May be worth a try

First thing, I would take an antihistamine & some Ibuprofen & then get an appointment at the doctors, either telephone or online & send copies of the photos you have posted.

Looks like a horse fly bite

Sushiandunagi · 04/09/2023 21:58

@liveforsummer thanks for letting me know - I think it may have been a wasp but I wasn’t sure.
@SaltyCrisps it’s getting bigger 😰
@QueenOfHiraeth ooh, good idea! I’ll try that thank you 🙏
@Nat6999 i was planning on avoiding getting my GP involved because I really think doctors have more important things than looking at my baboon bum. If anything fails - I might try it though.
@TerrifiedandWorried it did sting a lot!

I thought Horse Fly bite too :-( I agree with others. Get along to your GP to have it looked at x

Horse fly, little bastards. I had a bite on my arse too, it got infected so be careful of that.

hippoherostandinghere · 04/09/2023 22:42

I was going to say horse fly bite as well. I got bitten on my arm a few years back and it looked like that and it was so painful! Much sympathy to you. Perhaps you could show a pharmacist and see why they think?

endofthelinefinally · 04/09/2023 22:58

While you wait for an appointment, Tiger Balm is actually more soothing and effective than antihistamine cream. Take the antihistamine tablets but apply tiger balm topically. I have had some really evil bites in Asia and this has worked for me.

Sushiandunagi · 06/09/2023 18:19

Thanks everyone for your replies and thanks to those who advised to go see a doctor - after much deliberation i did it and got prescribed antibiotics. Apparently it was a horse fly and indeed it is infected. Trust my luck!
