Blocked Bile Duct Weight Loss

So my over 40 blood test showed I have raised liver enzymes. MRI and ultra sound have showed an enlarged bile duct, apparently its as large as you would expect it to be for someone in their 80s. No cause can be see in terms of blockage. Apparently this can be common in such casses so I am going to have the horrific experience of and endscopy. Consultant thinks its most likley gallstones, as more often than not tumor would show. I get mild bloating most days but otherwisw ok.

The one big thing is in I have lost around 7lbs or just over half stone in two months without trying. Dr did not seem concerned but reading online it can be a symptom of bile duct cancer.

really worried does anyone have experience?

Sorry you’re worrying - sounds awful. Does it cause you pain? Could the weight loss be that you’re avoiding foods with high fat that you’d usually have?

I have a polyp at the opening of my bile duct that causes me pain if I eat a fatty meal (eg Chinese takeaway) but isn’t large enough to remove right now. However they didn’t find this until they did an endoscopy- the ultrasound didn’t show up anything.

Hand hold for the endoscopy- I went for without sedation and I had to drive afterwards and it was ok!

thanks for the reply and sorry you are having a bad time. I have been keeping a food blog and there are no links to food types. Although I have cut down on fatty foods as I realised I was grazing on chocolate while wfh. But I am eating as per normal. No pain just a little discomfort on and off mainly jusrt below the breast bone so upper stomach area and sometimes on the right side

Sorry to hear you have been feeling so poorly. Has any of the consultants mentioned a the possibility of your bile duct being a Choledochal cyst? It is quite rare, I had to be referred to specialist hospital. If there are no stones in the bile duct but it is extremely enlarged this may be the cause. The bile duct is ment to measure 3mm and mine measured 27mm.
