Smelling cigarettes - is this a peri thing or something else?

For over a year now I keep smelling a smokey/cigarette burning smell.
It started last June, a week before I caught Covid.

It comes and goes but is fairly regular. I’m not sure if it is in sync with my cycle because I do feel it’s more prevalent before my period and around mid cycle but not sure.

Of course, when you Google this it comes up with all kind of worrying conditions.

I want to ask my GP about this but worry they are going to start seeing me as a heart sink patient soon as I’ve been back and forth over the last few years with so many issues, I feel as though my mind and body is breaking down.
I’m 50 and so most probably in peri, have awful, life long anxiety and depression (which has become so much worse since peri), terrible daily digestive issues which, despite endless tests, medications and a special diet is still a daily issues for me. I also have gynae issues.
I fear if I go in saying I smell cigarettes they’ll roll their eyes but it’s seriously driving me insane at times.

I don’t know if it’s a peri thing but I do find that my sense of smell in general is very much heightened these days. Only yesterday I was sitting in traffic and asked my dd if she could smell a strong whiff of petrol, she said she couldn’t but when I looked further up the traffic jam there were two vintage cars, I think it was from those. I can also smell cigarette smoke when someone is puffing away quite some distance from me, when others can’t smell it.

Is this something anyone else has experienced?

My DH got it a lot immediately following covid. It’s not as frequent now 2 years later but still happens.

Talipesmum I have heard of it following Covid but weirdly it first occurred a good week or so before we (dh, dd and I) caught Covid (we caught it from dd).
