Unrelenting headache for nearly 2 weeks

As per the title, I've had a headache for almost 2 weeks on one side of my head. Painkillers not touching it.

I've seen the GP and they've done bloods (no results as yet) but all they could say is it's perhaps an 'atypical' headache. Also episodes of pins and needles in the same side hand.

Any ideas of how to get rid or things to try? The only relief I get is from an ice pack.

It's not sinus ,is it?

betwelve · 31/08/2023 15:53

Headache is a major symptom of the covid that's going round at the moment.

Sumatriptan works well. It’s prescription only but UK meds have it

SaltyCrisps · 31/08/2023 21:42

Did the GP comment on your pins and needles, OP?

pelicanpromise · 01/09/2023 10:52

Thanks for your replies, I've done a Covid test this morning and negative (although the GP didn't mention this) no other cold/cough.

He did go through quite a few things including checking my ears and reflexes etc but no actual conclusion.

I'll have a look at the medication suggested as the headache is still going strong 😔

@pelicanpromise
Hi
I'm just wondering what the outcome of your headache was please?
I've had a constant headache/sharp pains for 3 weeks now 🥺
Thank you xx

Hi it's a virus I've had the same thing. Posted a similar thread. I do get migraines as well but it was different. One side of head localised pain. Stabbing in particular. Awful. Nothing helped it. I'm in antibiotics now for sinusitis and chest infection.

I'm still struggling and it's nearly 6 weeks now. I have no other symptoms apart from the head pain. I almost wish I did so I could explain it 😅
I had a couple of days this week when it disappeared and I thought I was on the mend finally, but it came back nearly as bad as ever yesterday 😥 xx

Both me and DD have had something, perhaps it was covid, where we have had a persistent headache. Mine for 9 days, she is currently on day 7 but hers comes and goes, mine was constant. She also had a temperature but I didn’t.

ohsuzannah · 09/02/2024 12:55

I had this, and it was type 2 diabetes.

SoftPillowAllNight · 09/02/2024 12:59

High blood pressure??

ThirdStorm · 09/02/2024 14:55

I've had this for the last 12 months or so. I've always suffered with headaches but in the last year they are much more frequent and for a while were fortnightly lasting about 24-36 hours and I have to lay down and sleep them away as paracetamol doesn't work. I've been keeping a log and in the last 5 months they've become monthly which I did wonder might be hormonal. Mentioned to my GP once or twice over the years, bloods done no obvious reasons. So now I just try to eat right, sleep right, get in some exercise, rest up when they do come. I probably should push a bit harder for answers but I don't want to make a fuss.

GlassHalfEmpty70 · 09/02/2024 18:41

I've had a CT scan because it got so bad that I ended up in A&E - not something I did lightly but I was so scared as I had right-sided weakness and pins and needles.
The CT was clear thankfully so I was sent away with Naproxen which actually made me worse! 😳 I was trembling and shaking and really spaced out plus they didn't help with the head pain at all so I came off those after a week.
Never again {shudder}
So, I'm currently on amitriptyline and paracetamol with instructions to go back to my GP in two/three weeks. At the moment, every single day is hard work... 🥹

Have you had your blood pressure checked? It can be a sign of high BP. Have you had your eyesight checked? Keep going back if it persists.

Yes, both normal 🥲
Thank you though!
It's really bad again tonight. I'm wondering about some type of neuralgia? 🤔

Have you tried cold and flu pills?
