Really getting me down now….

For the past six weeks or so I’ve had a very painful right neck/shoulder, together with a sore left knee - it’s beginning to drive me mad as nothing seems to make either better and I can’t work out what is causing it 😩

At first I thought they were unrelated - suspecting that shoulder and neck stiffness was fro tension and sleeping badly, and knee aching from somehow hurting myself? But it’s going on and on and I wonder if they might be connected.

anyone suffered similar? Late 40’s, on hrt, but otherwise pretty healthy. Beginning to worry it’s part of some bigger more serious issue! Any thoughts/advice appreciated xx

Do you need a new mattress?

Muffinbuttered · 25/08/2023 00:22

@Problesolving - thanks for reply. Think mattress is okay…have actually stayed in various places recently (holiday etc) and it doesn’t improve. Together with the weird localised pain I also feel more tired than usual and just like something is wrong ☹️

I would try GP, making sure are clear about being tired and then a private physio.

I’d see an osteopath - might be something like alignment in your pelvis caused by muscle tightness or imbalance. This seems to be the cause of my knee/neck issues (too long sat on my butt with crossed legs!)

Muffinbuttered · 25/08/2023 08:34

@Chestnutz - thanks. My job is very desk based and I do tend to cross my legs/curl up in the chair in ways I shouldn’t!

I’ve been trying hard not to though, and doing lots of yoga stretches to try to counteract it - the pain might ease for a bit but then returns with a vengeance. Beginning to feel concerned it could be a wider joint inflammation or autoimmune issue…anyone else experienced similar? C

I'm the same age and had months of right hip pain. Finally tied it back to getting a new car, fiddled with the seat position and it was gone within a couple of days. Could be something as simple as that.

Muffinbuttered · 25/08/2023 12:35

@amylou8 - thanks and pleased to hear your hip got sorted! I initially put both problems down to things that have been different over the summer - I thought I may have twisted my knee swimming, or slept in bad positions etc - but even though I'm back to normal life the pain just keeps on...so annoying. I am seeing a doctor later so will see what they say.
