About 7 years ago I had a nasty tooth infection, and I had to have it extracted. It was a massively traumatic experience where the injections didn’t work (I had 15!!) and the dentist couldn’t get the tooth out, despite hacking away at it for two hours. I ended up with an urgent referral to the dental bit of the hospital and they took pity on me and removed it under sedation that day. The recovery was hideous, it was so painful and such an unpleasant experience.
I had to have another tooth removed on Monday, due to decay and explained to my current dentist what had happened previously. She assured me it wouldn’t happen again and it would be a straightforward extraction.
8 injections and 45 minutes later the tooth had shattered and was impossible to completely remove and the root is still there, so I’ve been referred to the NHS clinic at the hospital to have it removed under sedation at some point….
I have a stupid question - is it possible for me to have dry socket if the root is still intact? I’m assuming not, but I am still in so much pain around the whole site and up into my ears etc. I’ve been awake half the night for the last three nights in such pain, and I just want some reassurance that at some point soon it will start to feel better. I’ve managed to get an appt for tomorrow morning to get it checked as I’m anxious about it getting worse over the long weekend. Am just feeling completely exhausted, and what’s extra frustrating is that this tooth wasn’t even hurting before this! And I know that when I have to get the root removed, I’ll have to go through all this pain again 😩🙈
