How long to recover from tonsillitis?

My 12yr old ds has been off school all week with this. He started to feel ill Sunday night and has been on antibiotics since Tuesday. I thought he would feel a lot better by now and the dr said he may be able to go back to school today. However he has hardly got out of bed all week and has barely eaten anything. He has been on his xbox for a few hours and chatted to his mates online and seems ok, then just flakes out. I thought he would def be at school Monday and am now not so sure. Does it normally take this long to recover? He has had quite a few days off recently with various things and I am worried how much school he is missing. He has now been asleep in bed since 3 this afternoon.

dizzy - how funny, I was just about to post the same thing.

I have never had tonsillitis, neither has dd, and I never realised it was such a serious illness, just thought it was a jumped up sore throat. Poor dd (12 also) has been really unwell since Tuesday. She has not even got out of bed, doesn't even want to duvet up on the sofa in the day and watch telly. A real high temperature with it as well. She has also been really weak, gets exhausted just getting up and going to the loo. She has only eaten ice lollies (doctor's recommendation!) and has slept around the clock.

I was going to post to ask how long this would last because I honestly thought she would be better in a couple of days. She has nearly finished her antibioics and she seems no better at all. Was tempted to call the dr again, actually.

What a coincidence! I wondered whether to call the dr. If he is still bad after weekend I may, although he just got up and said he wanted a bath. He seems ok for a while then just seems exhausted. He has never had this before either. Hope your poor dd feels better soon.
