Irritated bits - not sure what to do next!

I’ve had irritation down below for three weeks now . It’s driving me crazy. The GP said no sign of uti, and swabs were clear for thrush/Bv. They prescribed me Dermovate as said it looked a bit red and sore but a week into it I still have the same problem. Im wondering what to ask for next as she seemed confident that the steroid cream would help me. I’m 40 years old and still having regular periods. Anyone been through the same! If you have any advice for my next gp visit I’d be very grateful

Are you applying the dermovate using a mirror?
It was life changing for me when I saw that on a thread. I was happily putting it on and then, so I thought, wiping the remainder off my finger. Turns out it doesn’t actually stick to your vulva so I was just basically smearing it all on my finger! Once I used a mirror I could ensure some was actually sticking to the area it was needed.
I also ignored Drs instructions and applied it morning and night for 2 weeks as the pp advised. Worked brilliantly and months of misery cleared up in a fortnight.

Yes using a mirror and they told me to use it twice a day for the first two weeks. I’ve only had it a week though so far

Have you got young children? Might be worth trying a worming treatment if so.

Alwayssomething123 · 22/08/2023 19:50

I have got primary school children. I guess it wouldn’t hurt just in case

I’m a similar age to you and have been suffering with the same issue now for months. I’ve tried a prescription steroid gel for 4 weeks (amongst other over the counter creams) and it didn’t help, saw a gynae who told me I must be ‘drying myself out by just washing with water’ so I’ve been using aqueous cream, even that sometimes stings/burns! GP is flummoxed as swabs always come back negative. I’ve now been referred back to gynae again! It’s awful isn’t it, hope you find a resolution and soon.

Try this it's amazing. Not the most pleasant of smells but is natural . If not sure look it up loads of great reviews. www.stinky-stuff.co.uk/skinstuff/

Other option a canestan and 1% HC mix always works well.

Another is difflucan oral tablets .

Luno · 08/09/2023 22:56

Might be worth taking a fluconazole tablet and using BV gel for a week even though the tests came back negative. Won't do any harm and lab tests aren't 100% accurate.

Alwayssomething123 · 09/09/2023 08:23

I have a gyno appointment next week so will be interesting to see what she says. I’ve tried two lots of fluconazole when it started 7 weeks ago. So I don’t think it’s thrush but who knows.

Could be related to blood sugar? Worth asking for a blood test to rule that out.

This. Miraculous stuff.

Hope you get better soon, op. This hot weather can't be helping

IAmcuriousyellow · 09/09/2023 08:32

Itchy shebang can be connected to blood sugar so you might want to investigate that? Cut out sugars for a while? For me it made a huge difference and also someone above recommended Skin Stuff which is fantastic. Very soothing and I like the funky smell!

Butterflysunshine01 · 09/09/2023 08:35

Cut out bread/yeast, sugars and potentially dairy for a week and see if that makes any difference. Cool water compress before sleeping to ease the pain, and short saltwater baths every other day.

wildblue07 · 09/09/2023 08:37

I suffer with a similar thing. A strong steroid cream called emovate or something like that did the trick. Applied twice a day for a week. I also used caneston at the same time because the GP said steroid cream can then cause thrush.
I also stopped washing with shower gel down there as that really irritates my skin, I use an emollient cream epaderm.
Hope it gets better, I was tormented with it!

Alwayssomething123 · 09/09/2023 09:23

What’s a 1% hc mix and where do I get it? Thank you!

IAmcuriousyellow · 09/09/2023 09:25

It’s a type of Canesten called Canesten 1% you can get it off the shelf

Alwayssomething123 · 09/09/2023 09:32

Thank you! I’ll check it out!
