Wisdom tooth/gum infection - feel so unwell

Hello. Saw the dentist yesterday and he prescribed antibiotics. Taken 5 doses now and not noticing a difference. Is this normal? The pain is unreal and I feel so feverish and fatigued as well. Is it normal to feel fatigued and weak while having a tooth infection? I have health anxiety too and I'm worried this is all a bit much for a tooth infection

I’d speak to a pharmacy and clarify what painkillers you can take and which ones would be the best. Sounds like things are taking effect though.

URGH new developments. Woke up this morning with this kind of rash/redness/hives on my lower arm/hand? Skin is dark so you can't see it as well in the photo bit it's reddish. No itching or anything and I otherwise feel fine and as if the metronidazole is very sloooowly working? Guessing the rash is either from the metronidazole or the co-codamol (which I've never taken before)?

Should I try to get a GP appointment or something? No idea. Guessing it's probs fine?

Many antibiotics have a rash as a side effect.
My DD gets a rash from penicillin.

Co-codamol is very unlikely to cause a rash.

The rash is most likely an allergic reaction from the antibiotics. DH is a dentist and he has had patients react like that. Some reactions might be harmless but one patient ended up in hospital, so please double check with your doctor.

What would really help you is a dose of oral corticosteroids (prednisolone or methylprednisolone). One tablet is effective for 24 hrs and brings down the swelling which significantly reduces pain. It's not routinely prescribed in dentistry but works incredibly well. DH only gives it to complex oral surgery patients where there might be a risk of nasty swelling or infection.

If the situation doesn't get better then try asking your dentist or GP if they can prescribe corticosteroids. If you end up in A&E, this is what they would give you anyway. Some dental surgeries keep the medication on hand so it may even be possible to get one dose on-site.

Me again! Infection is definitely clearing up and much less pain and the rash is dying down but today I'm just feeling absolutely horrendous! Weak, lethargic, spaced out, very depressed, headache, sleepy, no energy at all...could this be side effects of the metrodizanole building up in my system? Weird that I've felt fine until now? This is pretty much day 4/5 of the antibiotics.

Anyone else felt like this on metrodizanole?
