My mum has a couple of worrying symptoms- numbness and tingling and urinary urgency and loss of feeling due to the tingling in her bladder. It is getting worse day by day and the tingling started in her feet in December 2022 and slowly over the months it has got worse she first went to the GP in May and again last week. She is very active but is scared to leave the house in case she needs the toilet. Blood tests were done and nothing showed up and GP isn't worried as she has no pain anywhere. She is worried it could be MS and would like an MRI or at least a referral to a specialist. She is her late 70's so I think MS is quite unlikely. GP cannot refer her for an MRI - he said it has to come through a consultant. Earliest appointment with a neurologist or urologist under the NHS is June next year so she thought she would go privately . We thought she would get an appointment in the next few weeks - trouble is lots of people are now going privately and first available private consultant appointment is November 11th and then will be about 3 weeks after that for an MRI again privately. Her quality of life is diminishing and GP doesn't want to know. Anything she can do to speed up the process. She has the money but even that doesn't get you seen nowadays.
