Had a bunged up ear for abot a week. Dr said it was fluid behind ear drum which would drain eventually. It had started to feel better but I (stupidly perhaps?) went swimming at lunch time and now it feels twice as bad. Can't hear a thing and it hurts (pressure build up type thing). Don't want to go back to the Dr as I feel like a wuss. Anyone else had this and any suggestions?

Please go back to Doc. If you have an infection starting you need to deal with it today, as a whole weekend with earache would be unbearable. Had earache a few months ago and couldn't do anything, it was vile and (I swear) worse than labour. Lots of sympathy, apart from the bit where you went swimming

Thanks Lio, I know I probably shouldn't have gone swimming. Won't be able to get to the Dr today though because I'm at work which is miles from the Dr So I'll just have to walk around with my head tilted to one side for the weekend so I can hear!

Im sorry to hear about your ear

My friend introduced me to ear candles and I think they are great.

This is how they work:

Hopi Ear Candles are an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations.

Ear candles have physical function. A light suction action (chimney effect) and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum.

"soothing and helpful for earache and headache, ear noise, stress and nervousness".

This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for earache and headache, ear noise, stress and nervousness. These benefits have been well known through 19 years of experience and confirmed by thousands of doctors worldwide. Hopi Ear Candles are an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations.

Check out the website Hopi-EarCandle.co.uk

It's really worth it, give them a go and let me know how you get on.
