Why am I freezing all the time?

I am so cold all the time my skin stings and my bones hurt. It was 25 degrees yesterday, people were talking about struggling in the heat, and I was shivering with blue lips and goosebumps.

I’m mid 40s, on HRT. BMI 21. Fairly active - gym a couple of times a week, dumbbell workouts at home. Not vegan or vegetarian.

This is not new: I have always had a low BP and lower than usual body temp (never been hot enough to have a ‘fever’, even when very ill). But recently it has been so so extreme - I’ve bought a wetsuit & thermal dryrobe so I can take DS to the pool, where everyone else seems comfortable in a bikini. I literally feel pain all over my body with the cold - it’s like sitting in a pile of snow.

It seems like a daft thing to go to the GP for, given I’m otherwise healthy. But it’s making life so hard - I feel like I want to cry, I’m so uncomfortable and tense and irritable and just freezing fucking cold all the time.

Standard blood tests are always ‘normal’. Is there anything in particular I should ask GP to look for?

Spinal nerve damage?

Did you get your thyroid function checked?

Bunnyhair · 20/08/2023 08:56

@Friendshipissue I always ask them to check thyroid when they’re taking bloods for anything. Last year they said it was all ‘normal’, and I couldn’t be hypothyroid as I’m not overweight and have a high heart rate.

Could it be iron or b12? I’m not sure they’ve checked for those.

@justasking111 I don’t imagine so, as I’ve not had any injuries that I’m aware of, and I’m not in pain anywhere.

I'm freezing all the time too and find it difficult to keep my iron levels up consistently even though I have a good diet. Definitely get it checked!

@Friendshipissue thanks! I will ask them to check iron!
