Would doing more cardio help me cope better with heat?

Just that really! Not much to add to the title

I quite easily become a clammy, flustered and puffing mess in the heat. I am a healthy BMI but do want to lose a stone.

I exercise but no cardio other than walking. Would it help if I became fitter??

I am a red, hot, puffing mess when I do cardio !

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/08/2023 22:53

Cardio will help with the puffing but not the actual heat.

The best way to cope with the heat is actually to live somewhere hot and then your body adjusts. Obviously not a short term option though!

@HundredMilesAnHour I’ll try that one out for a move to Barbados then 😂

ok well I guess helping with the puffing would be something

I think so because I don't get like that as I'm very fit .

Although it could just be how it is .

Yes. It's still unpleasant, but you feel less like you're going to die when you have to walk to the shops. The stone will probably make more of a difference though I'm afraid, not least because you won't have to lug it around in the heat anymore

lljkk · 20/08/2023 07:26

Try it & tell us how you get on, OP.
I grew up in a warm place getting lots of aerobic exercise.
I always found heat a huge challenge ... until long after I moved to UK & got much older. Now I relish the heat.

MikeRafone · 20/08/2023 07:28

What exercise do you do?

Hibiscrubbed · 20/08/2023 07:31

I do cardio and hard exercise every day. I still don’t much love the heat. The only benefits to coping are probably that I’m lean and drink lots of water.

RampantIvy · 20/08/2023 07:35

I'm assuming this is a hypothetical question because it hasn't been hot since June.
I think some people's internal thermostats just function differently.

Dropping a few pounds and drinking lots of water makes a big different to me in the heat. I still always seek out the shade but water really makes the difference.

At first I needed to visit the loo every minute but that settled down after a few weeks so it's all sorted.
