Hi has anyone here been prescribed Terbafine tablets to treat fungal nail infection. if so what was your experience of taking them? I've just been prescribed these tablets but am yet to start taking them am a bit put off by reading the possible side effects to be honest. But I know these tablets will be the only thing to clear my unsightly fungal nails. can't wait to be able to wear sandals again and not have to hide my awful nails.
please share your experiences of taking these tablets.

I took them for about 6/7 months , may have been longer , for very resistant athletes foot . No problems with them at all and no side effects . They also worked a treat and that was about 15 / 20 yrs ago and I’ve had no athletes foot since .

Dh has taken them twice now and is still on his second batch. He has had no untoward side effects and has had to go for regular blood tests to check they aren't affecting his liver.

DH has been taking theses tablets for toe nail fungus for around 8 months. He has regular blood tests to check they're not affecting his liver.Everything is fine so far and the affected nail is looking so much better

I took them earlier this year to treat a persistent fungal nail infection. I took a 6 month course and had no side effects at all and the infection completely cleared up.

I took them for several months for fungal nail. They were disgusting but did the job and also cleared up my very long standing athletes foot. No side effects here.

I had course a few years' ago and had no side effects at all - regular blood tests as others have said. I put it off for ages as I had heard bad things, and then wished I hadn't!

DH is currently on the same tablets - again, no side effects so far!

Yes. They cured my fungal toenails.

However they fucked up my body to the point I had an awful systematic reaction. I now have Lupus. As soon as I mention terbafine and lupus to any hospital department nobody expresses surprise. However I did have another autoimmune condition prior to taking so maybe if this is the only thing wrong with you then you might be alright.

I took them nearly ten years ago, no side effects, lovely clear nails and no reinfected nails. Best thing I ever did, no regrets!

gingergiraffe · 19/08/2023 12:32

I took them a few years ago for fungal nails. Cleared them up, no side effects and also cleared up my cracked heels which I had suffered from for years. Neither have come back.

Thank you for all your replies. And great to read the vast majority of you have had good experiences of these tablets with no side effects. it's actually the possible nausea and stomach upsets and weight loss I am most concerned about. Already very slim and need to gain weight to be honest and not lose it.
Also I'm on the contraceptive pill and I've read it can interfere with that and cause break through bleeding etc. Did anyone experience anything like this?

I'm still taking these been 5 months now, no side affects at all,all blood test checks fine and they are working great can really see the difference in my nails but still a way to go. doctor today has said I can only have 1 months more supply as a 6 month course is the limit apparently. I'm really disappointed as means it could completely come back as its not yet fully grown out of the nail. I have read online that a 12 to 18 month course is usually needed until fully grown out of the nail. Has anyone else only been prescribed a 6 month course and did the infection come back. so disappointed as was hoping to be able to wear sandals again come the summer.

It’s £50 a month so they are going to limit it. If it comes back go back to the gp.

gandeysflipflop · 30/12/2023 23:10

I'd happily pay the £50 per month if I had the option to do so. It'd be worth it to get it cleared up and rid of completely.
