Acute pain between hip bones - what’s it called?

I have bad pain between my hip bones. As if I had been kicked in the vagina TBH (I haven’t!). It’s a really sharp pain and it’s bad enough that it’s affecting my mobility and how I walk. Difficult to get up stairs. Definitely feels like it is bone or ligament rather than soft tissue, but it is very central, and is closer to perineum rather than abdominal.

It seems to have been triggered by a 10k walk while wearing sandals.

Does anyone know what it’s called and/or if there is anything I can do for it? I’m hoping there will be a magic physio exercise.

I vaguely remember having something similar when pregnant, but can’t remember the name and Google just keeps throwing up ovarian stuff so I am clearly searching wrong.

Labral cuff injury?

SofiaAmes · 16/08/2023 21:18

Sacro-Iliac (SI) joint issues? If it's too tight, the exercises are super easy...just look them up on YouTube or Tiktok. If it's too loose, that's more complicated and should get diagnosed by an orthopedist.

SPD?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/08/2023 21:20

Ah! Pubic symphysis dysfunction - that's the one from pregnancy.

rcat74 · 16/08/2023 21:22

Is the pain in your coccyx? I injured my coccyx in military training and couldn’t sit down. It was a very sharp pain. A physio checked my pelvis and it had dropped at one side. I had to have a lot of physio and rest. It took months to recover.

SPD! That’s what I was thinking of. Thank you!

But having now googled with the right terminology (thanks) it looks like it can’t be that because I am definitely not pregnant.

likely to be Sacro-Iliac joint issues - thanks @SofiaAmes I’m off to try the physio for it now.

not coccyx @rcat74 as it’s further forward. That sounds painful though!

Symphysis pubis dysfunction..
I broke both hips and pelvis 9 years ago.
Left me with this amongst other things.

fartfacenotfatface · 16/08/2023 21:28

@user76541055773 - I've had SPD issues when I've not been pregnant. A couple of doses of Naproxen usually sorts it (prescribed by GP).

TinkerbellefromYorkshire · 16/08/2023 21:28

PS And l definitely wasn't pregnant .. was already a Grandparent and had full hysterectomy.

user76541055773 · 16/08/2023 22:10

Physio-type exercises and some ibuprofen have helped a lot so far. Thanks all! I would still have been googling if it weren’t for you.

@TinkerbellefromYorkshire ouch! I hope you are well recovered. (Wonderful username btw)

Yes of course it is sorry and now I think of it I was remembering pain from pregnancy which was further forward and was SPD. It’s all so long ago now but I do remember the pain. Naproxen is good but can give you awful diarrhoea!
