If I take paracetamol, then breast-feed and give DS Calpol - will he be getting too much paracetamol?

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on me taking paracetamol, breast-feeding and also giving 23 wk old DS Calpol? Is there any chance he'll get too much paracetamol?

We are both a bit under the weather - I have some flu-like virus and although I hate doing it had to take some paracetamol the last couple of days just to cope with bathtime and bedtime routines. Tonight, I took it at 6pm and fed DS at 6.30pm, so hoping not enough time to get into the breast milk. However, he woke screaming at 7.30pm and as he has been really unsettled although and not sleeping more than 20-30 mins at a time, I decided to give him some calpol (2.5ml)and then fed him again. Now a bit worried that I may have inadvertently exposed him to too much paracetamol?

My sister asked this a little while ago, and I have no idea. I admit, I never even considered it, there may have been times when paracetamol and calpol were on the go at the same time. So I await answers with interest!

I'm sure I read Something like only 3% of the dose you take (of almost any drug) gets thru to the milk, not enough to over-d your baby, I'm sure.

i think there is very low transfer of paracetemol into your breast milk...you'd think the packet would carry a warning otherwise?

As DS spat quite a bit of calpol out as well, I doubt he's taken anywhere near his allowed amount!

Very little of the paracetamol you consume ends up in breastmilk, so it is safe for you both to take the recommended doses.
