Why do all my joints suddenly ache?

Russooooo · 15/08/2023 22:30

About a week ago, my knees, hips, shoulders all started to ache. I had a few days where they all hurt and my arms felt ‘heavy’ then a few days where I felt okay, now I’m back to knees (one badly, but both to some extent), wrists, even finger joints, all hurting. I’ve had a headache on and off throughout.

Any ideas what could be going on?

I run, and if it was just my knee I’d assume it was injured, but it feels like everything hurts. I’ve also had a few tick bites this year, but all removed promptly and no bullseye rash or flu-like symptoms…

How old are you? Peri menopause can do this.

rcat74 · 15/08/2023 22:32

Sounds like a virus?

ImDoingThisNow · 15/08/2023 22:32

Tick bites - go to the Dr and don't mess. The bullseye doesn't always appear.

gstv2104 · 15/08/2023 22:35

Could be a vitamin deficiency. I've had this previously and vitamin d and magnesium helped!

Russooooo · 15/08/2023 22:37

Thanks all. It’s helpful just to throw ideas off other people!

@gettingoldisshit - I’m 43. Already on HRT and no changes to regime in the last few weeks 🤷🏻‍♀️

@ImDoingThisNow - I’ve googled Lyme several times and the symptoms don’t really fit. From what I can tell, joint pain comes at a later stage, and I haven’t had any of the earlier stages.

I had that and it turns out it was osteoporosis. Have you had a Dexa scan at all?

Fibromyalgia/ RA/ B12 deficiency/ CFS/ Lyme disease.. could be absolutely anything.
Definitely see your GP.. get some blood tests and maybe a referral to a specialist.
Covid gave my daughter RA and Pots.

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 16/08/2023 13:34

Low vitamins can cause this especially low Vitamin D. Take a good multivitamin for a few weeks and see if you improve.

I found Vit D, Vit B12 and an iron supplement the most helpful for me.

New Covid strain

saltrocking · 16/08/2023 13:51

Started any new medication recently. I started a blood pressure pill and got these symptoms after a week or two x

Russooooo · 16/08/2023 14:58

I’ve done a covid test, take loads of vitamins, no new meds 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thank you though.

@LurkingMenace and @AlisonDonut, did osteoporosis/ arthritis come on quickly? I’ve always thought of them as conditions that built up rather than suddenly appeared? Sorry you have the pain too x

Hey, I know this is a bit old but I have the exact same thing right now I could’ve written your post myself. Did you get to the bottom of it?

AuntieEmm · 20/12/2023 20:08

Hips, knees and shoulders point to polymyalgia rheumatica, have a Google and see your symptoms match up.

K4tM · 20/12/2023 20:24

I had this, rheumatoid screen came back negative (although my sibling has it). Last August I was struggling to walk down the stairs in the morning my ankles were so stiff with a lot of aches and pains in all joints all day, including hands and feet. I was struggling to stand some of the time. Dr prescribed vitamin D and after about 6-7 weeks started to feel better.

Doing really well now, who knew? I had thought vitamin deficiencies were a thing of the past!

YukoandHiro · 20/12/2023 20:28

I've had this after Covid and flu in the past. Probably post viral.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 20/12/2023 20:32

I once had awful joint pain in ankles and wrists mainly but also elsewhere. I could barely bend down to fasten my shoes. My toddler had had slapped cheek disease but I didn't know at the time that in adults it presents differently. I had a strange photosensitive rash on my arms for one night and then it went. However a couple of weeks later I could barely walk down the stairs, so did some googling and discovered the connection with probably slapped cheek infection. Ihad some blood tests which showed raised inflammatory markers and was referred to a rheumatologist but by then they were coming down and I felt less stiff.

Anyway, I guess it probably is unlikely to be the same reason for you but thought it was worth throwing in there.

I started a similar thread about this as I am suffering with horrible joint pain, stiffness and weight loss. I am significantly low on vitamin D so have been taking that for about 4 weeks so far .Not much improvement so far . How are you Op and everyone on the thread.

Blacknailer · 13/06/2024 13:27

I had this and needed vitamin D. Or of course you could be ill.
