Weird stomach bug going round?

Has anyone else suffered with an odd stomach bug recently?

Started feeling like I was coming down with a cold at the end of last week; body aches, sore throat etc. Stomach pains started on Saturday and was absolutely wiped out. Felt nauseous and full of cold yesterday, my DD1 was sick multiple times and then DD2 joined in the fun. This evening I’ve been sick twice although nothing the other end…

The stomach pains are the worst bit about it. Sometimes it feels like I’m over it and then I’ll get a wave of pain and it’s back with a vengeance. Feeling pretty miserable and wondering when it will end!

Have you done a covid test? Those symptoms sound like when I started with it.

DoughnutDreams · 15/08/2023 04:16

That sounds like a lot of covid infections just now.
Positive tests are usually around 5/6 days and after swabbing throat/cheeks/nose

Feeling like I was going down with something then cold symptoms + gastric symptoms is pretty much how I would describe my current covid.

I've never been so uselessly ill. Can't do anything if it means staying on my feet for more than a couple of minutes.

I don't have the pain though.

I had this recently. Did 2 covid tests, both negative. I did think it was covid but the tests said otherwise.

Peterpiperpickedapec · 15/08/2023 05:01

Thanks all. I did wonder about covid but the sickness/stomach pain made me think otherwise. Typically I don’t think I have any tests left!

I also had covid last week and your description is exactly how it went. The gastro symptoms were the worst part and I still don't feel completely normal.

Greenfishy · 15/08/2023 07:40

I had a very odd gastric infection a few weeks ago now. 10 days of diarrhoea with really high temps, ended up on antibiotics. Perhaps I should have done a covid test!

Interesting to read as one of my DCs has been feeling sick for a couple of days (but no vomiting as they would with a sickness bug). They have also been having weird hallucinations at night.

Sibling has cold symptoms and had a nose bleed too (super unusual) so I've been wondering what weird virus we're dealing with. I'll blame Covid.

Peterpiperpickedapec · 15/08/2023 11:50

It’s honestly the most ill I have ever felt! I would rather go through childbirth than feel how I’m feeling right now 😓

Covid has caused stomach issues since about 2020. I remember all the suggestions at the time that the government didn't want to confuse people by introducing too many symptoms to check.... the high temp, cough stuff tbh , haven't been been defining symptoms for a while.

I was in hospital in August 2020 with Covid, mainly gastrointestinal. Nosebleed does also seem to feature.

But, either way, it could be another nasty virus, and just lie low for a while. Hope you all recover well.

BodGaoithe · 15/08/2023 12:36

I had Covid this time last year for the first time. Apart from body aches, headaches and a temperature, it was all stomach/ guts related. Took bloody ages to test negative again as well. Husband was the same.

Yes, going around my area and the vomit smell is like no other illness I've ever had 🤢

I second this! DD1 threw up in a Halloween bucket in her bedroom and the stench has not gone away 😷

Sounds like covid to me

Dontbelieveinumbrellas · 15/08/2023 17:31

Or could it be food poisoning that just happened to happen at the same time as you have a cold?

I don't really get stomach cramps with sickness bugs, but did with food poisoning, they were constant and horrendous.

Hope you feel better soon.

Fam23 · 15/08/2023 19:16

Last November I had a cold for a day and then it was quickly replaced with a sickness/ diarrhoea bug. It definitely wasn’t covid, I think my body just felt I didn’t need to be suffering with both at the same time 😆🫣. We’ve had a lot of covid recently at work and a large number have been suffering with gastrointestinal disturbances too. I hope you’re all on the mend soon.

mummysherlock · 15/08/2023 22:22

Yes I had dreadful nausea and vomiting about a week and a half ago - no stomach pain or cramps and nothing the other end but literally couldn’t keep anything down this was from the Saturday evening to the following Wednesday evening. I ended up severely dehydrated and had to go to hospital for IV fluids. Once the vomiting stopped I got a dry cough and did a covid test which came back with a faint positive line.
I had never felt so rough in my life, the last time I had covid I just had a mild cough and a few muscle aches, nowhere near as bad as this time. Would say I’m probably around 90% back to normal now but I never want to be that ill again

I just posted a thread about this. Have got a really horrible vinegary taste in my mouth. Have managed to keep a cereal bar down today, but nothing for the two days before that. Three negative covid tests, GP said its viral. Its on a par with when I had covid, if not worse cause of the sickness.
