Why is part of my foot so painful/sensitive when anything touches it?

A small bit of my foot, just by the ankle bone (on the inside of my foot), is excruciatingly painful when anything touches it. I know that sounds dramatic but it really does hurt!

It was first like this some months ago although I can't remember doing anything that might have caused it.

As it's been summer (well, most of the time anyway!) I've been living in Birkies so it's been fine as nothing is touching it. I also thought this would mean whatever was causing the pain would heal/get better. However when I wear trainers, like today, the padded top and tongue of the trainer touching it is so painful.

It's not the sort of pain that you get from a break (I've broken the other ankle before) and it isn't painful to walk on or hurt at any other time other than when there's pressure on it. There's no real sign of anything like bruising or swelling, I don't lace my trainers up too tightly and the trainers (more than one sort) were never a problem before.

Anyone got any ideas please?

I had something very similar recently, the pain was excruciating just on one small area of my foot. My podiatrist said it was bursitis, caused by my trainers being too tight. Just like you, my trainers hadn’t been a problem but I stopped wearing them and the pain subsided after about a week. I still wear them but not consistently and rotate them with other pairs. I took ibuprofen when the pain was bad and that helped.

I'm glad your pain subsided. Unfortunately mine hasnt, even after weeks of no trainers or anything other tban Birkies.

I might have to try Ibuprofen especially with rain forecast and a camping trip ahead! Not exactly Birkie conditions! 😕
