Split nipple

In the shower I noticed that my nipple was stinging. When I got out I saw that it is split- where the nipple joins the areola.

Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this? I’m not breastfeeding.

Best to get it checked by GP - I believe any changes to breast area should be checked just to rule out breast cancer.
