Burst eardrum - bad treatment abroad

On holiday and I'm fairly sure my DS16 burst his eardrum yesterday while snorkeling. I'm aware there's not much that can be done apart from let it heal, but I thought it best to get some advice from a doctor.

Now wishing I hadn't! The guy syringed the ear with tap water "so he could clean it to see". I really shroud have stopped him, but when I asked if it was a good idea he just said it was fine.

To make things even worse I almost passed out at this point (heat, stress, the willies...). So I wasn't best placed to advocate for DS.

The "doctor" confirmed the ear drum looks damaged and that there isn't any treatment apart from time to heal it.

I'm really worried this may have caused further damage. DS said the water ended up in his mouth from the syringing🤦‍♀️. Can anyone advise?! I'm missing the NHS right now!
