Breast needle biopsy

Yesterday I had a needle biopsy. Last night it was a bit itchy and this evening it got very itchy so I did as instructed in the letter and removed the waterproof dressing. It's gone red where the dressing was underneath my boob as the biopsy was taken from quite low down. The actual stitches and look fine and it's not super sore but I'm a bit concerned about the redness. Is this likely just a reaction to the dressing or do I worry about infection? I'm going to call them on Monday but as it's Saturday evening I thought I'd ask on here. I guess I have to wait until 48 hrs to shower now as well I've removed the dressing.

I’m not a doctor but I would have thought you are ok to wait until Monday.
However if you develop a temperature or if your breast becomes very sore then contact a doctor sooner.
Try some paracetamol and plenty of liquids and try to get some rest. Review the situation tomorrow.

Mine was very itchy for a week or so. But not hot or anything so I just kept an eye on it. Bruising was awful!

Yes when I had a biopsy my breast was very sore and bruised afterwards but after a couple of days it improved so short lived

I’m always a bit allergic to the dressings and my skin goes red and itchy where it was stuck down.

Thanks everyone, hopefully it's fine and will subside by itself. I'll ask for a different dressing if I ever need another I think.

well I had this procedure under ga last Monday and was given preventative antibiotics- within24 hours I was doolally off my box in an unpleasant way. My gp changed the antibiotics and now I’ve just got this awful nausea and lethargy. How bad would it be to just stop taking them?

CreatingHavoc · 15/08/2023 09:29

@Iusedtoliveinsanfrancisco That seems unusual to give preventative antibiotics. The nurses told me infection afterwards was very uncommon after a needle biopsy. It's also usually done with a local anaesthetic, is there any particular reason yours was done this way? Do you have low immunity?

Oh sorry creating havoc. I was trying to start my own thread and accidentally hijacked yours! GP told me to stop the antibiotics I hope yours has calmed down too. Sorry again
