Using alcohol as a painkiller

I have a progressive pain condition which is currently not well controlled. I am waiting for a consultant appointment but have been told it will be months, or even over a year. I get no relief from mainstream painkillers, can no longer take the meds that used to help, and currently, alcohol is the only thing available to me that gives me any relief from the pain. I feel like I am on a slippery slope, I really dont need an alcohol problem as well. But after a day of pain, I just want some respite. Not posting for anything other than getting it off my chest! Although miracle cure suggestions welcome!

I've been in a similar situation over the past few months with continuous pain and I too have resorted to alcohol. I can't use naproxen etc. There are other pain killers that are opiate based. Depending on what the pain is are there heat pad/ tens machine options? I've had great success with an electric heat pad and a tens machine.

@pieceofpasta Yes its the NSAIDs that I can't use anymore too. I have codeine for emergencies, though it's not as if it knocks the pain on the head, it has a minimal effect. Yes, need to look into other stuff like tens. Will give it a try, thanks.

I have codine too and I've had tramadol and morphine. The tramadol was ok but the effects wore off after a few weeks. The non drug options have been a real game changer for me. I have several items so that I have something charged up at all times. Good luck and let us know if any of them help you.

This is the heat pad that has made a big difference to me. It does about 3 hours. amzn.eu/d/dFCN5bT
