Hi
My 15 year old son has been complaining of itchy scalp so I had a look tonight and it has little red sores on it over top of head like spots but some are bleeding where he scratching it . Says it really itchy . Had a really good look and there is def no lice . I have seen that spots before on his scalp when he gets his hair short but just assumed it was teenage skin. However this itching is new . It’s also looks dry flaky slightly but not that bad . He uses head shoulders shampoo .

Any advice on what to try . I have given him anti histamine to hope to calm the itch and will try different shampoo .

does he needs to see a gp. Won’t get one for about 3-4 weeks where I stay though since Covid .

Any suggestions to stop the crazy itch for him as he says it’s driving him demented and it does look sore .

thanks

Ellie

My scalp hates head and shoulders shampoo and gets itchy if I use it.
My whole family are pretty sensitive in that area... The best (and I've tried many) I've found for not aggravating it is:
https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/dr-organic-aloe-vera-shampoo-60083618?skuid=083618&utm_campaign=shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz8emBhDrARIsANNJjS7NZM8L6KMESQ6OBoYKJC7P3IDPlaakC66PdnzyoNFWduuE5FMKMlEaAiQaEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

The shampoo and conditioner.
If he isn't using conditioner he should to replace the natural oils shampoo strips out.
I don't know about the cause obviously, but don't carry on as he is, cos something is upsetting things.

If his scalp is raw and very uncomfortable is work some oil in to sooth and calm overnight. He'll look horrible but it should be more comfortable, and he can gently wash it out before he needs to go out in public again

It could be psoriasis, if so coal tar shampoo is worth trying.

Could it be ringworm?

StillWantingADog · 08/08/2023 23:51

Sounds like it could be some kind of psoriasis or eczema
def book in to see gp
if it is psioriasis sunshine helps a lot so I’d put him out in the sun next couple of days,
not for too long obviously. If eczema a pharmacist should be able to recommend something in the meantime

I'd rub some almond oil over night and wash off in the morning, shampoo first then water. If that improves things then do that once or twice a week otherwise see the GP. I would use the body shop ginger shampoo too.

Thank you all very much . I think I will take him to pharmacy today to see what they advise as well.

Folliculitis? Mine get it every summer.

It sounds like psoriasis which I had on my scalp as a teen.
