I can't stop getting colds - is anaemia making a difference?

I had a blood test at the GP because I keep getting sick. I have kept a diary since May and I have had cold symptoms 4-5 days a month every month since then. I've just got cold symptoms again today.

May/June/July/August - so 4 times. 2 of those times were colds relating to cold sores (May and July). June and August don't appear to be cold sore colds. The doctor gave me aciclovir but unfortunately, I've had to stop taking it because it made me throw up. The blood test came back and I'm anaemic and low on vitB12 but not so low that I'd need injection supplements. Doctor has advised taking a vitB12 under the tongue supplement (plus folic acid) and iron. Is this likely to make a difference? I'm not someone who is normally this ill this often.

Is it the same time each month? I get hormonal rhinitis.

Yes it is the same time. Wow I didn't know that existed. I've got a sore throat this time too. What do you do about yours?

I had one year where I had three incredibly bad colds/ chest infections that took weeks to shake off and when the fourth came along in Nov I asked for a blood test which revealed incredibly low iron levels. Got iron supplements, got the root cause fixed and didn’t get as ill again, so I’d say yes, in my opinion, low iron can make you more susceptible. However, am not a Gp etc etc…!

Thanks - they suggested taking the supplements for 3 months and seeing what happens. Iron plus vitB12 plus folic acid so I'll try all 3 and hope one does the trick!
