Mosquito bite- 'normal' reaction?

We're currently abroad and I've been bitten multiple times. Generally they flare up for a few days, itch like mad then go away. However I was bitten three days ago (I assume by a mosquito) and the bite is getting bigger and sorer. I've taken an antihistamine each day and the local pharmacy gave me hydrocortisone cream but it's not helped much. We drew around the red circle surrounding it last night and today the circle has spread outside the pen but changing colour in places from pink to purple- other parts of it are fading.
Does this sound part of the normal healing process?
We're travelling home late tonight so can visit the pharmacy etc when we get back but if anyone has any tips or suggestions I'd be grateful to hear them!

Depending on what country you’re in they may do over the counter antibiotics. Every time I get bitten I end up on antibiotics because of the bites tracking and turning into cellulitis. Is there any way you can go back to the pharmacist and get some prescribed? A bite tracking isn’t normal I’m afraid.

Thank you
I can't get to a pharmacy today as we are travelling but there may be somewhere in the airport I could try.
It's the back of my leg so is rubbing on everything, which I guess could be making it look worse than it really is!

Could be a sand fly? I react badly to all bites, but sand flies react like that, last about a month (!), and go from red, to swollen, to purple, to blue, to yellow.

Possibly- we stayed very close to the beach but I haven't been on it since Monday. It's pretty disgusting so I shall spare you any photos 😂
