Perimenopause - does this sound normal?

56 and still in perimenopuse 🙄. A couple of years ago my periods became extremely heavy and closer together, often less than 3 weeks apart. As they typically lasted more than 10 days, I was on an almost permanent period! I do have fibroids which doesn't help and after some surgery to improve but not remove them my periods got a bit lighter. They then started getting further apart For much of this year they've been around 5 weeks apart and much lighter - often mostly brownish blood that stops & starts and barely requires a tampon. I have also had occasional spotting in between periods but even that hasn't happened for a while. I was therefore hopeful the end was in sight! My last cycle was 38 days which ended with a very light period so was keeping my fingers crossed I was almost done. Then, 2 days ago on day 18, I started spotting brown blood and this morning its turned bright red and seems a bit heavier. I feel very despondent and wondered if this sounded normal. Will my periods ever stop?!?

Anyone had similar?

Thanks x

I'm a little younger than you but my periods were like that for a good year or so before they (seem to have) finally given up the ghost. Well, it's been 3 months since my last period and I have no signs or symptoms that one's coming. Plenty of signs of peri/menopause though!

It's great being a woman isn't it Grin

Thanks for replying. It's now a full on heavy period. So frustrating after months of light, manageable periods AND I'm due to get on a plane tomorrow. Typical!

I was like that, very light periods every 2 or 3 months. Then I had a heavy bleed period, which turned out to be my very last one. I started with changes to my periods at 51 and by 53 they had gone away completely. There’s no normal going through this stage, never knowing when you are going to get some spotting. I went through a stage of wearing 2 pairs of knickers, always carrying a spare pair and if going out would wear a panty liner, just in case.

I'm 55 and the same Op. Flooding so heavily it's shocking. Periods lasting 10 days + every three weeks. All this after them becoming much lighter and shorter and much, much longer in between. Pisses me right off.

Thanks, really hoping this is the last hurrah I've heard so much about!

I was the same, still had very heavy periods at 55. I went on hrt and that solved the problem completely, as well as the hot flushes and poor sleep.
