WTF is wrong with my tongue??

For the past couple of weeks I have had a discoloured tongue, it's sort of brownie / yellow coloured. I brush like mad and it clears but still doesn't look pinkish, more pale and slightly coated.

I also have a weird film in my mouth like I can pick bits of stringy salvia out from the inside of my cheeks / lips.

I did discover some tonsil stones that I raked out a couple of days ago and I thought that might be connected but my tongue is still the same.

It's making me really paranoid. Wondering if I should try & get a GP appointment but things are so hectic at the minute with it being the summer holidays and squeezing childcare in around work etc.

Any ideas on how to cure it? Nothing to do with oral hygiene, I brush, floss, mouthwash etc like a pro.

Could be oral thrush? Ask a pharmacist

Could be thrush?

Do you use oral b toothpaste by any chance?

You should see a dentist for a check up but potentially it could be oral thrush. You can buy Daktarin oral gel over the counter; it won’t do any harm if it’s not that but if it is it will clear it up.

Possibly lichen planus?

I find I get like that when I'm really snotty - like now with hay fever. I use a copper tongue scraper, have you tried this?

Could you be breathing through your mouth and not nose overnight? Mouth taping can help make sure you're breathing the right way when asleep.

Have you changed toothpaste recently? I've had the stringy bits happen when I accidentally bought the wrong toothpaste. It took me ages to figure out what was causing it.

Oral Thrush.. l suffer.. do you have type 2 diabetes? It's common with that.

Sorry everyone, I wrote this and then forgot I had done so.

It's a week on and the stringy bits seem to have gone and my tongue is no longer the browny colour but definitely doesn't look how it normally does, it's more pale than usual.

I've been scraping and brushing but it doesn't seem to make much difference except making my tongue sore 😩

I'm going to ring the doctors on Monday and hopefully will manage to get a suitable appointment.

You'd be better off seeing a dentist xx
