Please help - gallbladder polyp worried

Reginaldperrin · 04/08/2023 13:08

I’ve just been told my gallbladder polyp had grown to 3.6cm and I need to have my gallbladder taken out.

I’m terrified, firstly about the possibility of it turning
cancerous. Even the idea of that is totally freaking me out. And secondly about the operation (the risks).

Can anyone help talk me down?

sorry you’ve not got any response on here yet. Try and take things a day at a time - it’s challenging not to think the worse. I hope you get some answers soon.

I had mine removed by micro surgery - was over in an hour.

Felt fine the next day and no lasting damage.

Gallbladder removal surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures there are. Many many people have their gallbladders removed.

Thank you for replying. The thing that I most worried about is the fact it can turn cancerous, just the word has scared me.

Following. May I ask how you found out there was a polyp in first place? Ive recently had an MRI on that area.
I have a couple of relatives that have had their gall bladder removed via keyhole and as previous posters say it was a simple, quick and straightforward. I would say much better to remove it. Best of luck.

Reginaldperrin · 09/08/2023 21:09

@Onesipmore I had been having a heavy feeling in that area, so they scanned it and found it via ultrasound. The suggestion was that it wasnt a bit deal as it was 3.4mm, but I was scanned again and it has grown to 3.6mm so they have said I should have the gallbladder removed.

@Reginaldperrin thank you. Hope the op is a success and good luck.

I could have written your post, in the same situation as you.

Appointment at Kings next month to discuss gallbladder removal. Im not concerned about cancer, thats why they remove the gallbladder when a polyp goes over a certain measurement to prevent this happening.

Please try not to worry !

Reginaldperrin · 09/08/2023 22:15

Thanks for replying @Ladyofthelake53 ive been put on the list for removal. Not sure how long it’ll take. Do you know how big yours is? Have you had symptoms from it?

I cant remember now exactly.but like you, mine has got bigger since last scan. Im waiting for another MRI before appointment next month but theyve said its over the size for removal. Its on my letter i will have a look and reply back to you.

Yes i have symptoms, nausea for one, and as you said a feeling like theres a mass under my ribs, sometimes pain as well.

Its done via keyhole so its not so invasive.

Had my gallbladder removed by keyhole surgery 8 days ago. In and out in same day, couple of days feeling a bit out of sorts, by day 4 felt completely back to normal. I've been doing some light gardening today! Tony scars almost disappeared already! It's a really straightforward operation and definitely worth it to take away worry of the polyp.. I had inflamed gallbladder for 15 months, on waiting list 12 months........fingers crossed you can get sorted quicker, especially if you are having the pain I was!

I had a massive 4cm polyp in my gallbladder I had the whole gallbladder removed and the polyp sent off for testing everything came back fine, I'm all honestly having it removed was a doddle compared to the pain I was in before.

Had mine removed yesterday for a polyp just over 1cm. Didn't appear sinister but I didn't want to run the risk. So far so good.

PrincessPeaches123 · 25/08/2023 19:50

Did anyone have a lump over their incision post op?

Jayd291 · 23/03/2024 11:33
