Ugh really struggling this week with a stomach bug, any advice welcome because I literally feel like I'd welcome death right now.

Started with tummy ache on Monday afternoon at work. Felt sick by the time I got home and basically vomited and had diarrhoea all night. The kind where you sit on the toilet with a bucket because both ends are simultaneously ejecting. The cramps were awful and I swear I literally felt probably the most unwell I've ever been.

Vomiting stopped by the morning and thought I'd just have a day or so sleeping it off/recovering but even though I've not been sick since the early hours of Tuesday morning I still feel horrific. Barely eaten anything and I've basically had constant tummy cramps since, accompanied with diarrhoea 4-5 times a day which is basically (TMI sorry) water. I also feel so bloated despite being empty. Feel like i need to do a thousand farts but it's not happening...

I can live with feeling lethargic/going to the toilet but the tummy ache is so bad. It's kept me awake at night, just constant churning and cramps. I've tried paracetamol and buscopan which does help a little bit but it just comes back a few hours later. Every time I try and eat something bland or even have a good drink of water/rehydration sachet it just ramps up the pain and I'm on the toilet again despite knowing I need some nutrients.

I'm really reluctant to take Immodium/Loperamide because I usually believe that whatever is making you ill needs to come out but not sure how long I can go on for. I feel like I sound SO dramatic, and I'm a nurse so I feel like I should naturally know how to fix myself but I've just never had anything like this last for this long Blush And then I remember it's only been 4 days it's not that unusual..

I'm currently lying on the sofa, groaning with a hot water bottle on my tummy waiting for a GP call back because I feel so bad I think I should take in a stool sample just incase. Me and DH had eaten exactly the same in the two days before, even the same packed lunches on Monday so I'd be surprised if it was food poisoning. A few people have had bugs at work so I'm assuming it's something like that but no one else has had 4 days off.

Wise mumsnetters give me your best tummy bug hacks that I may not have thought of Envy

You poor love, that sounds horrendous.

You're certainly NOT sounding "dramatic" in such circumstances...you're simply stating how bad the symptoms are.

Hope by now your GP has called back?

The cramps are probably worse because you're so empty. Try a bit of dry toast.

Take Imodium. At this point, you need to get on top of the symptoms and it will make you a lot more comfortable.

Random, but I know of at least two people who's "stomach bug" has turned out to be appendicitis so if you're still not feeling better then think about getting checked?

Thank you for the replies.

So the GP did ring me back, they asked me to come in and they also wanted to rule out appendicitis. I was slightly tender on the right side so he sent my down to surgical assessment for bloods/examination. I really didn't want to go in fear of pooing myself on the way however DH took me down and dropped me off right outside and I was ok.

They had a good feel of my tummy, bloods show mildly raised white cells/CRP so they did an USS to rule out anything ovarian/gynae (which I really didn't think it would be). They don't think it's my appendix but said I can go back anytime in the next 48 hours if I'm not any better or get worse. They did cannulate me and give me a nice bag of Hartmanns fluid whilst I was there because I looked so dry, and honestly I genuinely think it's done me the world of good.

I don't know if it's a case of mind over matter and being reassured but I think I feel a bit better. I've managed to have a couple of hours sleep this evening and some toast and I've definitely not got tummy cramps on the same level as this morning.

Praying this is me on the mend!

Glad you were seen! Dehydration can absolutely play havoc, can't it? Hope this is the turning point and you're on the mend now ❤️

That all sounds positive, OP.

Glad you got treatment which helped. Here's to a smooth recovery.

Sorry, new to this site and I accidentally wrote something I wanted to be a post as a comment on here. Rookie error.
