Sigh. I was hopeful that my time was going to be limited to summer school, possibly an extra term or two. Frustratingly, that seems not to be the case as my treatment plan has changed yet again going in the direction I had tried my best to avoid. And that's the thing with cancer, isn't it? A lack of certainly or even trying to anticipate the road ahead even if your MDT have told what comes next. Because just when you think you know what's what and finally where you are going, an unexpected, not to mention unwanted hurdle crops up and you're back not sure of what's ahead.

Does anyone have any experience of Abemaciclib? I believe it is sold under the brand name Verzenios.

doublec · 14/09/2023 03:54

PS. Love love love the wombats! Ridiculously cute. Thank you @FairyWren7 for sharing.

Makemineadecafplease · 14/09/2023 05:40

Thanks Silkie, I still have a bit of back pain so I hope the antibiotics are working, I will keep an eye on the symptoms.

I have temporarily stopped taking my tamoxifen and ramipril whilst i tinish the antibiotics because I just can't handle too many meds. Like some others, I didn't take ondasetron during chemo..thankfully I didn't have any nausea. Sometimes I do think the meds make us feel worse. I remember when I had covid three months ago, the medication I was given gosh, I have never felt terrible in my whole life..I can't remember the name now..it starts with P and interacts with almost all meds. I didn't like it at all.

Makemineadecafplease · 14/09/2023 05:43

Paxlovid! That's what it's called. I stopped after two days of it and felt better a few days after.

lucysmam · 14/09/2023 07:08

Oh my goodness @FairyWren7 how cute! I wonder if they feel as soft as they look!

Last pre-chemo bloods for me today. And lunch after with two friends and one of their sons. Not sure where we're off to yet.

Need to drop off a few more Vinted parcels on my way. I'm doing quite well - made about £45 over a week and a half ish so far towards our Christmas market trip and trains for Taylor Swift.

Florabritannica · 14/09/2023 07:18

Love love loving those wombats! I met one called Matilda in Sydney Zoo many many years ago.
I’ve been having fun with Vinted too - I’m trying to shift 50% of my wardrobe and be left with things I love and can fit into. EBay seems better for higher-value items but the process is much more laborious.

lucysmam · 14/09/2023 07:38

Trouble is though @Florabritannica, there's always something I fancy on there too 🙈 tbf though, the last things I bought were a vintage dress for dd1 to customise for her Taylor Swift outfit, and a smart coat for her as well.

My wardrobe's bulging & the kids laugh at it - they forget that it holds dd1's prom dress, some of their smaller jackets & some of dd1's jumpers because her wardrobe needs replacing. She just hasn't picked one yet 🤷‍♀️

Silkierabbit · 14/09/2023 07:52

Love the wombat pictures Fairywren How wonderful to see them in the wild and thanks for sharing. Will you see any Tasmanian devils? 😻

Well done on reaching the end of chemo LucysMam

Glad things are getting better a bit
Make

My 17 year old DD seems to be getting the entire contents of Vinted delivered here, about 5 parcels a day. And of course she's always out when they arrive. She must have the world's largest clothes collection.

Makemineadecafplease · 14/09/2023 08:00

Weegie, I hope you stay in this club won't be for long. Ladies and gents (I think...not sure) here are very helpful with any questions you may have. We all struggled with the waiting period but don't try and something to occupy your mind and soon the wait will be over. I am crossing my fingers for you.

I love Vinted so much I deleted the app. Lol

Can you call your cancer nurse? I saw the lymphoedema nurse this week in my prep for my radiotherapy and she was so knowledgeable about everything. She was so nice I alwmost asked her if I can have a go on the electric massage trousers that Jennifer Aniston uses as part of her beauty routine 😀

I had a good foot massage yesterday it was painful but worth it, it’s my feet that have the numbness I hope it does go away.

well, I’m off to my first radio treatment now. Wish me luck!

Silkierabbit · 14/09/2023 08:32

Remaker I was told 3 months after chemo effects go on for / peak and had worsening neuropathy which then improved though was a bit bumpy path.

Florabritannica · 14/09/2023 08:33

Good luck @EachandEveryone !
I am being totally ruthless about not buying ANYTHING until I have cleared redundant summer clothes, swapped in autumn/winter, and done a clear out of those. By then it will probably be spring!

LemonDrizzle10 · 14/09/2023 08:54

@EachandEveryone hope radiotherapy goes smoothly for you.

I was also told that the chemo side effects carry on for months after treatment and for me it’s true. Mostly problems with hands and feet.

@EachandEveryone I hope your appointment goes well.

@Florabritannica you're doing better than me 🤣 There's always something catches my eye - I'm terrible for shopping 🙈

There are two jumpers in there I'm undecided about. They're kind of like the emergency leggings and trousers I wore when I was full of fluid, but not as bad. I can't decide whether they should go on but don't think I'll ever want to wear them again.

I had a vague google about breaking negative associations yesterday but maybe I should be more thorough.

EachandEveryone · 14/09/2023 17:18

Well I bought a pair of linen trousers from Boden in a lovely green. I bought them to wear during radio but they are so flattering on I think I will have to wear them to go to meet my mother on Sunday. Yes, twice in one week😂😂😂

it was fine thanks. Except I then treated myself to a manicure in Hampstead £45!!!! I don’t know what’s wrong with me I can’t stop spending money.

im wondering should I be doing anything like putting my feet up? The technician said she’d never seen anyone’s legs blow up afterwards but the doctor put the fear of god into me

Remaker · 14/09/2023 23:34

Thanks @Silkierabbit and @LemonDrizzle10 for the reassurance. I was told that it would take many months for the nerve damage to repair but not warned that it could get worse before it gets better.

Whattodotomorrow · 15/09/2023 06:47

@FairyWren7 oh what wonderful photos!! Thank you for sharing! Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Tilllly · 07/10/2023 21:50

Hi, am I in the right place?

Breast cancer, nearly 3 years ago, I have been toddling along nicely only to find out this week that the fucker is back and in my lung
It's 8 cm, has breached the mediastinum and is encroaching on the heart. Looks like stage three at best and inoperable

Going through the battery of tests for the MDT to decide what the treatment plan is, but it looks palliative rather than curative

SummerCycling · 07/10/2023 22:06

@Tilllly

Hi Tilllly

Welcome to the general cancer thread.

I am so, so sorry to hear your news. I hope your MDT come up with a good plan and that they have some effective treatments available for you.

Our general cancer thread is where we chat very generally about cancer, our lives etc. I think most people on the thread are stages 1-3 (I am personally stage 3c), but some are also stage 4. I do think (if I'm not mistaken, which is possible) that there is someone on the thread with cancer in the mediastinum. The general thread is very active and has now continued on to number 90 which you can find:
