I'm looking for medical professionals! Possibly a theatre nurse?

That's sexist isn't it, I didn't mention a surgeon, I would assume he'd be busy!

Anyway, my DH has been told by his swimming club that he needs to make sure his tetinus is up-to-date, because he's doing a Triathlon in the Thames! He had a very big operation 2 years ago and I was wondering if tetinus is the sort of thing they give you as a matter of course, when you have an op? Any ideas? Or should I just phone the surgery and check!

AFAIK you're not given tetanus immunisation prior to surgery. However if he has had a primary course of three injections followed by two boosters, he should have lifelong immunity. See here.
I'd also think he's more at risk of Weil's disease from swiimmming in the Thames than tetanus.

no, wouldn't be given that pre op unless the cause of the operation was a rusty nail etc! the idea being that the instruments they use to operate on you are clean so you don't need protection from tetenus!!

Thanks for that. I will look into the other disease too. There's no telling what's in that water tbh! Rather him than me!

True enough about the instuments! It wasn't a back street job! Although, that said, he did need to be X-rayed 2 days later, because a pair of scissors had been mislaid from the OR on the day of his op!
