Is this a dodgy mole?

A few days ago I touched my upper back and it felt as if a small layer of skin came off - like peeling skin after sunburn. The area hadn’t been exposed to sun and wasn’t burnt.
Just now I felt the same area and there was a light scab.

I took a photo and I’m not sure whether a mole has fallen off. Is this something I need to get checked out?

You should see your GP - it's uneven around the edges, and is a bit crusty looking.

It's very likely benign, but it's important to get these things checked out.

The only person who can tell you is a dermatologist. Start with your GP, who unless they are very sure it's nothing dodgy, will refer you.

I'm a practice nurse and get asked weekly by patients to have a look/tell them if a mole/lesion is something they should get checked. I always say yes, make an appointment to get to checked. I can't tell them what a dodgy one looks like as I only see people for skin things after the dodgy part has been removed! And I see a LOT of people who have had dodgy/potentially dodgy things removed.

Most of the people referred don't have skin cancer, but some do. Always get anything worrying checked out. The turnaround time is pretty good, considering.
