Does anyone have a cold ATM

I've had an achy sore throat on and off all week. Today my chest feels tight and my body aches. I've also got a burning face.

Is there a summer cold doing the rounds? I don't even want to think about Covid!

Yes, I and my 1 yr old both have colds, mine started with a sore throat yesterday and I rapidly have almost lost my voice. Green gunk this morning. Headachey yesterday and today, not sure if that's the cold or the horrible humidity. Eurgh.

spinspinspinthewheel · 28/07/2023 08:55

I started with headache and sore throat couple of days ago. Now nose steaming, sneezing fits and eyes are sore and watery. Feel horrible. Teenager had it last week and was so ill with it.

I went overseas recently. Half the airport was coughing, both ways, and the flights and hotel were also full of people who were clearly quite unwell. It’s like this bizarre thing no one talks about. DH got covid out there.

I think there is probably a weak strain of covid everywhere, I’m seeing far too many ill people, much more than in a usual summer.

Or perhaps it’s that we lost all our resistance to other viruses during lockdowns, who knows. But there are definitely a lotta ill people around.

iwantawisteriathisyear · 28/07/2023 09:23

DH and I have both had this. He was much more poorly, obviously.
Both had sore, scratchy throats with a constant cough. Hot face, aches and generally felt rubbish. Lasted about a week. Both tested negative for covid

Sounds just like the dreadful virus that's swept through my family. Sore throat, temperature, blocked nose, hacking cough. We've all been ill for a week now and no real sign of improvement. Negative for covid. My daughter has now developed an ear infection and I have a chest infection. The joys of summer are not apparent in our household at the moment. My kitchen table is covered with so many pills and potions that it looks like a pharmacy!

stiltonbriecheddar · 28/07/2023 11:33

I'm at work wearing a mask and trying to get through the day, seems to be sweeping through my workplace as others have called in sick with it today too.

We're all getting over a cold too. It's a nasty one that made us feel quite ill for a couple of days.

Selfesteem23 · 28/07/2023 12:22

I had sore tickly throat followed by awful runny nose. Thought it was just a cold. Lost my smell so tested as I still have some ( NHS ) and it was covid. This was in May.

Symptoms were so much more like a cold than my first dose of covid last year where I had temps and body aches etc. this was just cold symptoms. I wouldn’t have tested but the only time I’ve ever lost my smell was with covid.

I work on a ward and quite a few general swabs coming back with basic cold viruses, a few covid. Symptoms similar with both.

stiltonbriecheddar · 28/07/2023 15:41

I don't have a cold it's covid! Just tested and it immediately came up positive!

I have felt like this for a few days. We returned from abroad (Med) on Monday ,so thought I may have picked something up. Started with sore throat, now feel so hot and 'snotty '. Tested for Covid this morning , it was negative. May test again tomorrow. On 3rd week of 7 week college break, so no work worries.

stiltonbriecheddar · 28/07/2023 19:01

I've been in contact with someone who has just returned from holidays and is ill!!

Oh sorry it's covid, take care and hope your feeling better soon.

Something else is doing the rounds as well, I woke up on Tues with a sore throat, bunged up, aches. Felt pretty bad for a couple off days but now a lot better, just exhausted.

We’re in another Covid surge. It’s blindingly obvious.

LT2 · 28/07/2023 19:32

Here! A stuffy nose for me mainly. Toddler's is coming out as a cough and runny nose.

NotLovingWFH · 28/07/2023 19:41

Have just had the cold from hell and two other family members have had it. All tested negative several times and has been doing the rounds at secondary school. Still feel knackered a couple of weeks later.

Well if people are going into work it will sweep through, why would you go in?

stiltonbriecheddar · 28/07/2023 19:54

@dogsweetdog I went into work because unfortunately I had no other choice. The guidelines for us are if you test positive but feel well enough you go in. This morning I hadn't tested and was presuming I had a cold. It has swept through the building because others before me have come into work with it.

OP posts:
stiltonbriecheddar · 28/07/2023 19:55

Also I only found out others had it after I called to let them know I was positive.

I started with a slightly sore throat Tuesday last week. Felt a bit under the weather by Saturday, cough, blocked nose and runny nose started on Monday. Gone by Thursday. A fairly mild cold overall. I do usually get one at the end of term (teacher) so I'm not surprised. It wasn't bad though, hasn't stopped me doing anything. No idea if general cold or COVID but either way, it was fine.

LittleCrackers · 28/07/2023 20:24

Does anybody have any remedies to ease the symptoms of this latest covid strain please? I feel terrible 😞

Scrumbleton · 28/07/2023 20:34

i've had it this past week - chest, throat and ear pain, coughing, shivers, aches. Covid test was negative.
