Numb/tingly arm and leg

I will try and keep this short.

6 weeks ago I started getting weird sensations in my right arm. Pins and needles, patches of numbness, tingling ect. Sometimes even painful. Sometimes I'd wake up in the night and my arm felt like I'd been lying on it even though I hadn't. A few times I'd woken up with a dead right leg too.

About 2 weeks ago, my arm got better but then today it's been bad again plus I've woken up today with my right leg feeling the same, although not quite as bad as my arm has been.

Hope all that makes sense! The only other symptom I've had is extreme tiredness. The last few weeks especially, I've been struggling to stay awake and have had to have at least 1 nap a day.

I've got a doctor appointment this afternoon but just wondering if anyone had anything similar? I was initially thinking carpal tunnel but with my leg feeling the same, it can't be.

Hi I’m experiencing the numb tingly in my arms and legs and it’s not going away…how did yours end up?

Swizzylyons · 01/04/2024 08:19

Hi, I am at the early stage of trying to get to the bottom of this. For the last few years I have had swelling/pitting in the lower half of my legs along with pins and needles in my feet. (I have had Covid once and also am vaccinated fyi)

Initially, I put these symptoms down to my new hobby of running as I was at that time training to run the London Marathon. Changed trainers and pins and needles seemed to go.

Two years on my pins and needles are back with a vengeance. Went to see a physio about a pain in my knee but in the end he was more concerned about my pins and needles. Ended up running through all my symptoms with him: neuralgia in my head - sharp electric shock pains that occur every few months, general ache and discomfort in neck, tingly legs and pins and needles and more recently I keep waking up with numb arms that I have to shake out in the night. The last symptom is really getting me down as it’s affecting my sleep now and feels really odd.

Physio has written a letter for me to pass on to my doctors this week to recommend an MRI. He feels that it’s neuropathic pain.

I feel like my body isn’t my own anymore and feeling so anxious about what it could be. I’m 39.

OP - How did your results go? Thanks x

@Swizzylyons I have identical symptoms for last 19 months- mine came on post covid and post vaccination- do you get occipital neuralgia too ( pain at junction of base of skull /top of spine) that sometimes gives headaches/pressure in back of head? Gave me dry/painfull eyes too. It's all very intermittent- some days it's mainly head and neck stuff, other days I get a weak feeling arm or leg and other days pins and needles. . I've been waiting forever for an MRI, neurologist didn't seem that concerned as I've had it for quite awhile, I'm not sick, no speech or eating issues etc and it's not all the time.My own view is I think I've get disc issues or spinal chord issues. - looks like I will have to pay out around £800 and go private.

@Nortam hi Hope you are well. Did you get any update on your MRI?

Lollyl88 · 04/12/2024 19:08

Hi @Swizzylyons. I'm hoping you're still on here! How are you? Just wondering if you got to the bottom of your symptoms? 😊

Lizzbear · 04/12/2024 19:12

That's odd op. I take Sertraline and I also get dead arms x

Hi @imnotthatkindofmum can I ask when your symptoms started please? I’m 37 and have recently started having these symptoms among others after a virus. My ferritin is low, as is folate. But otherwise I’m fine. I don’t think I fit a typical post viral fatigue picture, which the doctors are suggesting it is. I have abnormal periods, some heavy, some super light, some across 10 days, others across 3. I doubt I’m peri but I wondered whether my hormones could be all over the place. My one hormone test was normal but I guess that’s just a moment in time

Lollyl88 · 14/05/2025 17:49

@BethButBetterI had these symptoms (I posted earlier in the thread). I have had mris etc all ruled out physical causes. Just started HRT. All symptoms have disappeared. I turned 39 last week and my symptoms started age 38. So don’t rule it out if other tests have come back clear!

BethButBetter · 08/06/2025 08:28

Hi @Lollyl88 thanks for replying, and sorry I didn’t see this. Do you mind me asking if your problems started after a virus too? And whether / how your hormones were tested. I’m still in a similar boat to when i posted a few weeks ago. But I managed to go on a ten day holiday with two young kids, where I managed physically - no crashes. For me that’s not typical post viral fatigue. Coming home has been hard, flare of symptoms and feeling more physical symptoms and stress from these symptoms again. Struggling with my mental health.
