Numb/tingly arm and leg

Nortam · 25/07/2023 11:18

I will try and keep this short.

6 weeks ago I started getting weird sensations in my right arm. Pins and needles, patches of numbness, tingling ect. Sometimes even painful. Sometimes I'd wake up in the night and my arm felt like I'd been lying on it even though I hadn't. A few times I'd woken up with a dead right leg too.

About 2 weeks ago, my arm got better but then today it's been bad again plus I've woken up today with my right leg feeling the same, although not quite as bad as my arm has been.

Hope all that makes sense! The only other symptom I've had is extreme tiredness. The last few weeks especially, I've been struggling to stay awake and have had to have at least 1 nap a day.

I've got a doctor appointment this afternoon but just wondering if anyone had anything similar? I was initially thinking carpal tunnel but with my leg feeling the same, it can't be.

@Laura22023 could it be a spinal issue- did you have a spinal MRI ? I think that's my issue and waiting on MRI as I have a stiff neck

Laura22023 · 11/09/2023 11:58

@Crikeyalmighty It may be... I only had a brain and cervical spine MRI, not full spine... But GP said thats all I needed... hope you get your MRI soon... my current ailment is muscle twitch in shoulder blade near armpit that is freaking me out ...

Weefreetiffany · 11/09/2023 12:22

Could be a trapped nerve, has anyone visited an osteopath? I had a slipped disk that resulted in sciatic pain down my legs and into one arm, that I thought was carpal tunnel, but was the impacted nerve chain up my back and inflammation around it. I saw an osteo for a couple of months and she loosened the over tight muscles and made space for the nerve lines so they weren’t being “squashed”. I’d lifted my toddler in a funny way and pulled something that was kept bad through RSI and sleeping on a too hard mattress on my side/ slouching my pelvis under me on the sofa. Once I addressed those things and saw the osteo I got so much better. Maybe it’s worth considering if every other Avenue has been explored?

Laura22023 · 11/09/2023 16:55

@Weefreetiffany thanks for the advice, I have been considering an osteopath tbh. I think at the moment I just have fatigue from dealing with GP and neuro and all the tests aswell so a bit stuck... its hard trying to find time to fit all these things in when working full time too..

Sugarcoatt · 11/09/2023 18:06

I have these symptoms too. Achy, pins and needles, twitching muscles. I’m terrified and having panic attacks.

Sama29 · 18/09/2023 11:05

@Nortam just curious if you've received your MRI results yet?

Nortam · 18/09/2023 15:39

@Sama29 I haven't had my MRI yet. Still waiting for an appointment but I'll update once I've had it.

Hi all- I had my MRI on brain and spine last Friday and now impatiently awaiting the results. Anyone have an idea of how long it takes to get feedback? Will I only get called if they're not clear? I can't handle this waiting period.

Nortam · 03/10/2023 19:23

@Sama29 have you had your results back yet?

OP posts:
Sama29 · 04/10/2023 10:17

@Nortam yes, I just spoke to the consultant. My MRI was clear so not MS! She suspects that since my symptoms started with a fever and I was around someone who tested positive for covid, that it was a covid reaction. Apparently the virus is unique in that it can get into the nervous system. My symptoms are pretty much gone now but I have a follow up appt in a month.
have you booked your MRI yet?

Crikeyalmighty · 04/10/2023 11:10

@Sama29 I had this shit going on for about 8 months post covid and post vaccine- dizzy weird lightheaded feelings, pins and needles in legs and feet multiple times a day, occasionally a finger/arm and a weak leg plus strange internal tremors- like a train was going under me - it's coming down a lot now- but this is a year on- covid certainly can play havoc with nervous system- it's not all breathing or heart issues etc - I had none of those

Sugarcoatt · 04/10/2023 12:55

My GP is also blaming Covid for my symptoms. I was around someone who had Covid, then I got a very mild cough and tummy upset, plus severe muscle pains, burning, tingling, numbness. I had extensive tests and even a gastroscopy - all clear. So they’re saying it’s viral.

Crikeyalmighty · 04/10/2023 13:04

@Sugarcoatt I can honestly say I was convinced I had MS -
And it went on for about 8 to 10 months.

The only thing that seemed to help over time was eating gluten free and no sugar apart from berries- lots of water, green tea plus supplementing vit D, a multi vit, folic acid ( the lack of gluten sent this low as no fortified cereals and bread) and an omega 3.

Sama29 · 04/10/2023 16:40

My recommendation is if you are having scary neurological symptoms and your blood tests are normal and if GP is not taking you seriously, I 100% say go private for a neuro appt. I don’t have private healthcare but paid £300 to see Dr Brownlee ( who is a consultant at UCL- specialises in MS) . My health anxiety was impacting my life so greatly, I couldn’t focus at work or be a good mom and wasn’t eating. Once I spoke to him my anxiety was so much better, he was able to order me to have an MRI on the NHS within a few weeks (vs GP saying 3-4 mos).

Crikeyalmighty · 04/10/2023 17:24

@Sama29 I paid to see a top neuro too- she asked me what I thought it could be - and then told me why it almost certainly wasn't any of those things and why it wasn't.

Sama29 · 04/10/2023 19:22

@Crikeyalmighty did she get you an mri?

Crikeyalmighty · 04/10/2023 22:26

@Sama29 - no, she didn't in all honesty -

Nortam · 20/11/2023 22:18

I had my MRI today finally! I have to wait until February to get the results though.

Hijohn · 21/11/2023 00:00

ive had the same as @Crikeyalmighty since I had covid for the second time. I’m so fed up. Hope all goes ok @Nortam and you get some answers.

Crikeyalmighty · 21/11/2023 00:22

@Hijohn it's truly awful isn't it- I was so unproductive as spent all my time googling what it could be and doing deep breathing exercises and stuff- the doctor had me on beta blockers too to try and help the anxiety (and bring my BP down slightly too) - and I think they made me worse after a while- certainly I noticed when I stopped them after 6 months that my weak wobbly leg muscles improved quickly

It did all noticeably start to wane a bit at about 4 months and then quite a lot by 8 months- the first thing that went was the weird spacey dizziness that used to come on randomly - - even at a year though I still get the odd pins and needles in feet, probably once a day for 5 minutes. The thing I hated most was the weird internal vibrations/buzzing thing. That stopped at about 6 months

Hijohn · 22/11/2023 18:37

@Crikeyalmighty thanks for this reply, it’s made me feel so down so it’s positive to hear you saying it is going away even though I know it still sounds really annoying/not nice.

I get these weird feelings that aren’t quite dizzy but sort of that feeling before you see stars when you faint. It’s made me anxious and then it becomes a feedback loop of anxiety about it. Ugh. Guessing it’s some exertion type fatigue.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/11/2023 22:00

@Hijohn absolutely- it was more of a spacey, light headed, low blood sugar kind of feeling (as you say a bit like you were going to feint) lasting about 5 minutes a time in my case, 2 or 3 times a day- mine was worse in the evening sat still on the sofa

Roselilly36 · 23/11/2023 04:24

@Nortam pleased to hear you have had your scan, what a wait for the results though! Hopefully you might hear before then. Good luck.

Nortam · 23/11/2023 07:18

Thank you @Roselilly36 I will update once I get results. How have you been doing?

Roselilly36 · 23/11/2023 07:22

@Nortam that will be great, hoping you will get some reassuring news. I am ok thanks.
