Private GP

Can you see a private GP without registering with them and losing your NHS one?

I have a few interconnected things I want to discuss but in an environment where I don't feel rushed or just told 'do this' or 'here's a prescription'. More holistic advice taking into account life circumstances.

Yes. We are all registered with both. But the registration with the private one isn’t an official thing in the way it is with the NHS or anything, just means we’ve been there before so they have previous notes and a credit card on file.Tend to see the NHS one for really basic stuff like the kids vaccines but they’re too difficult otherwise so for everything else we see the private one.

We’ve got both a private GP and NHS GP.

I don’t share notes from private to NHS. We mainly use the private GP for same day appointments or more thorough investigation. It’s a big practice and they offered a reduced rate for under 12s.

When you see a private GP they ask if you want them to pass details of the appointment on, so it’s up to you. I agree it’s nice to be able to sit and talk to a GP without being rushed.
