Is this mosquito bite infected?

I've just come back from a week in Spain and I was bitten to death. All over my legs, arms. Just feasted. I've been back since Monday but this bite has just appeared yesterday on the back of my thigh. Hot to the touch, itchy/stringy. Is it infected?

It looks it to me. Try and get an appointment at an out of hours for some antibiotics.

If you’re worried I would seek medical advice but mine always go like that for a few days and then I take an antihistamine and slap some hydrocortisone cream on it and it calms down.

Seeline · 21/07/2023 18:02

Mine always go like that - not infected, just a reaction. Have you tried antihistamines?

Boriswentcamping · 21/07/2023 18:06

If it's hot to touch and spreading then definitely see someone as both are signs of infection. Keep photographing it to see how it changes or draw a circle round it to measure the spread. Urgent treatment centres can deal with infected bites. In the meantime try keeping it elevated. We have had a few of these that have required antibiotics. Also a raised temp would be another sign it needs treating quickly

Mine also always go like that. It's an allergy. See skeeter syndrome....

I had an infected mozzie bite a few weeks ago and it looked very similar. Contact your GP or go to a pharmacy, better to ge safe than sorry.

Lifeinlists · 21/07/2023 18:12

I wouldn't mess about with a bite like that. There's a specific antibiotic - can't remember its name - which will calm it down.
I've had a few and infected bites need treating.

Take antihistamines and use hydrocortisone cream. Piriton liquid is better as you can take it multiple times in a day. See what it's like tomorrow.

DogSitterMum · 21/07/2023 18:15

Draw a line around it with a pen to keep an eye on the swelling. I get bites like that always end up on antibiotics as it can turn into cellulitis, I’ve been hospitalised more than once with bites on IV antibiotics. You’re best to get that checked out tbh.

Lifeinlists · 21/07/2023 18:18

You can get sepsis

that looks particularly nasty

I disagree, not medical but gut a dh who reacts badly and that's not particularly bad at the moment. There's a difference between infected and a huge reaction. Obviously if the OP feels ill she needs to seek help.

Shannon9955 · 21/07/2023 19:02

Thank you everyone. I don't feel ill or any different in myself. Have iced the area, took ibuprofen. Icing it has helped
