Low white blood cells

My 13 Yr old dd went for a blood test due to period issues before Christmas and it came back with low white blood cells, so gp asked for her to have another blood test which she had a couple of weeks later and they came back fine.

Last month our gp sent her for another blood test for something else.
The gp phoned me a week later to say its come back with low white blood cells again and it had been screened for cancer cells and all clear (thankfully) but she needed another blood test which dd had last week
I phoned gp surgery today for results and receptionist put me on hold. When she came back on the phone she said the gp has contacted peads at the hospital and is awaiting for them to get back to her.
I then asked if the blood test had showed low white blood cells again and she said yes.

Has anyone had similar or know what it could be that's causing her to have low white blood cells x

I had this when I was 18/19. It was because I was malnourished. Didn’t quite have an ED but definitely had some disordered eating going on. I also had very, very low B12 levels too and had to have injections to boost them up.

Also - I will say I was never under weight when my eating was an issue, and I did eat, it was just poor choice food, skipping meals. I looked pale but no under weight.

I have this it's called cyclic neutropenia and it's basically harmless.

I have autoimmune neutropenia and I take medication for it Smile

Similar and shamelessly following. My last two blood counts have shown low white blood cells. All other bloods normal. GP has asked me to go back in 6 months to test again.

I don't think it's a eating issue, don't get me wrong she 13 and can eat lots of junk but she does eat fruit and veg daily and quite often makes herself a fruit smoothie x

Sounds like they’re looking into it to double check. It’s always a worry when it’s your kids isn’t it. Equally the fact the first one was at Christmas and only just followed up might suggest it isn’t something they’re immediately concerned about. I struggled to find much online.

My GP did say to me it might just be my ‘normal’ and not related to anything. She did mention something about asking the bloods dept to look at it under a microscope but I don’t think has progressed that idea. Can’t be worth what it was called but might be worth asking?

One of mine had this. It turned out to be glandular fever. Good luck 💐🌻

Glandular fever hadn't crossed my mind, I will see if she has any other symptoms x

My DS had had a sore throat in the mornings for a couple of months and had been tired- so the symptoms didn't seem particularly severe at the time. A few months later he had a flare up which caused bad fatigue. Hope you get some answers...
