My dd1 (4) has eczema, and generally sensitive skin. Ever since being out of nappies at 2.5 she's had occasional bouts of itchiness, usually around her labia, occasionally around her anus.
I have pondered (and treated for) threadworm, eczema, fungal infections...without really knowing. GP gave me Timodine, which stung her, so I stopped. I checked at night for worms, but never saw any. I treated her, and it made no difference, or not for long (a week, maybe).
Recently, aged 4, she really did have threadworm - I saw them, in the toilet bowl - and again, the only symptom was itching in the bath (at the front, and she said it 'tickled' rather than itched).
That was over a month ago, and I treated all of us at fortnightly interval, did the hygiene thang, and we've even been away (coincidence!) for two weeks - so any eggs that missed the cleaning frenzy should be past it. I re-treated just before coming home from holiday (overkill?? but she was itching again). Now, five days later, she has red patches around her anus, has been itching outer skin of her labia in the bath, and I'm just wondering....is it remotely possible for a worm to have survived the onslaught of cleaning and Ovex?!?!?
Or am I barking up the wrong diagnosis? Should I go to GP again? Am so fed up of this...
