Hi all,

About a week ago I woke up with what I assume is a swollen lymph node on my neck. Its been slightly bigger for the last 4 years (maybe kidney bean size), now its probably apricot size. It's also very painful!

Reading conflicting things online- most things seem to suggest it will go down by itself in a couple of weeks.

Does that sound right? I'm not 100% sure it's a lymph node but i have a slight cold so it would fit.

Do I need to see a gp or do anything? It is hurting constantly but particularly when I move my head. But equally i dont want to bother the GP if it will go away on its own before long!

Any ideas for relief would be appreciated also ☺️

Go to the go tomorrow morning, that sounds like something you should definitely bother them with

FutureUncertain · 19/07/2023 19:08

Is it hard or squishy?

Please get it checked out. DH’s swollen lymph node the size of a plum was cancer. Soft is apparently not sinister, but you still need someone to check it.

@FutureUncertain I'm sorry to hear that, i hope he's better now? Was his painful? It's come up so suddenly i assumed it wouldn't be anything too bad.

I will get it checked though, i didn't realise that would be a possibility!

GP tomorrow. Ask to be seen in person. Might just be an infection. If growing that fast needs looking at!

His was a small lump for around two weeks but then just blew up practically overnight & was very tender. He was seen within 2 days.
By the time he had surgery it was massive and, sadly, it had also spread somewhere else, he’s been having radiotherapy.

Chances are yours is nothing to worry about at all but it really isn’t worth the risk of waiting. I do hope it turns out to be all okay.

I'm sorry to hear that, i had no idea that sort of thing could happen. I hope they can get it under control 💐

I will make an appointment in the morning, it really didn't occur to me it could be anything but a lymph node! Hopefully that is all it is 🤞

I would get it checked, it's probably nothing but best to check. Hopefully you won't have to wait to long for an appointment.

Just to update, the GP has arranged for a blood test and a scan!

So thanks all for the nudge 😊

That’s great. I hope it turns out to be nothing but it’s good to get it checked.
