Scared of my heavy bleeding and blood clots

Hi all, I'm new here. I am very upset and worried right now because of 11 days worth of heavy bleeding accompanied by losing huge blood clots.

I am 40 and don't get periods very often, but this bleeding came on 11 days ago and there's no sign of it stopping.

I have no idea if it is just some horrific period or just random bleeding. The blood is bright red, continuous and I'm passing massive blood clots. I have some cramping, but it's not too bad.

I'm just very scared right now and need someone to talk to before I speak to a doctor (I'm phoning for an appointment shortly).

Is there anyone out there that can relate to this situation. I don't have any kids if that helps and I have type 1 diabetes, I am overweight and have Hypothyroidism.

Thanks all.

You're doing the right thing speaking to a doctor. I hope you have some reassurance soon.

I know several people who e had similar and it was fibroids. I often have heavy bleeding with large clots but not for 11 days. Hormonal disruption in perimenopause can also cause it. Please try not to worry and see what the doctor says.

I don’t think anyone can advise - it could be lots of things. Most likely it’s peri menopause and periods often become very weird - heavier, longer, more clots etc. It may also be related to your thyroid issues as you can often have heavy periods with hypothyroidism (I do). Hopefully you can get some medical advice and it will put your mind at rest.

Thank you. That means a lot to me, because I don't really have anyone to talk to about it.

I had a fibroid / peri that made my periods like this. Hopefully the Dr will reassure you....but do not get fobbed off. You need answers.

I'm in Peri and I had this. Turned out it was fibroids and just another shitty symptom women have to put up with in peri menopause. I'm now on HRT (progesterone only) and its really really helped this.

Sorry to hear you have had problems too, but it's great that your treatment has helped.

I assume I have fibroids, but I keep worrying it's cancer. Silly, I know, but I worry about health things so much.

Thanks for your message. I know it's difficult to give people advice, but I am just glad to be able to talk to someone about how I'm feeling.

Its not silly at all- I had the exact same thought. Go to your GP and get an ultrasound, it will put your mind at rest and then you can look at treatments. Flooding is very very common in Peri and it sucks.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 17/07/2023 08:59

I experienced this and saw the dr. The gave some pills to stop the bleeding and did some investigations. I got referred to gynae and they confirmed some small fibroids.

I was offered ablation and took it. This is only suitable if you've finished your family as you shouldn't risk getting pregnant afterwards.

It was done under general anaesthetic, but was out in the same day and I've not had any bleeding since (multiple years). It was great. Much less invasive than hysterectomy or other major surgeries

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

Sorry to hear that you have struggled in the past with this, and thanks for sharing your story. It sounds like you had a positive outcome.

My GP is calling me later. I think they'll suspect fibroids and I'm hoping for some medication to ease my symptoms.
