Constant diarrhoea

MusicInAWord · 14/07/2023 00:38

I have had constant diarrhoea for a month. I have cut my diet down to simple foods like bread chicken and eggs, but it's not made much difference.
I have spoken to the GP who has ordered some tests, but I'm just hoping for some suggestions on how to manage this until I make some progress with the doctor - the tests could take another week or so to come back.
All advice gratefully received.

Can you take OTC loperamide? It’s not a long term solution it while you are waiting. Also make sure you are replacing electrolytes s you lose a lot with diarrhoea. You can buy rehydration salts or go for a few sports drinks. Sometimes rehydrating slows lot even stops the problem but in any case you need to keep on top of your glide intake. Fingers crossed that you will be better soon

Yes, loperamide (Imodium) and/or Buscopan.

I have IBS and I use this sort of combination (I use mebeverine, but that's prescription only, but does the same thing as Buscopan).

Loperamide definitely. Also try psyllium husk tablets as they help bulk

Good luck with the tests. You may need a colonoscopy to check what is going on.

Problem is I am already lactose intolerant following a twisted bowel a few years ago. By detective work, I now think this might be caused by a gluten intolerance. What the hell will I eat? So wazzed off.
