Does this sound like a chest infection?

Ive had a chesty cough for over 6 weeks now. I don’t feel unwell but it’s driving me mad. I sometimes feel short of breath but not sure if it’s something I should bother the doctors with as I don’t have a temperature or cold. Sorry if it’s gross but I’m coughing up phlegm and have a sharp pain in chest which has started this evening (it’s intermittent) my question is shall I speak to doctor as I may need antibiotics (although I don’t feel like my chest is crackly) or wait it out a bit longer? I will say I do think it’s got better over the last two weeks just this is lingering. I don’t want to bother the doctor if it’s something I can wait for it to pass.

What colour is the phlegm?

Zepherine · 14/07/2023 00:14

The shortness of breath would worry me and I would see a doctor about that. Also the pain and that it has lingered for so long.

see a doctor - or see a pharmacist - they can advise you too

I'd see a doctor. You could have a chest infection with these symptoms.

dizzydizzydizzy · 14/07/2023 00:22

Yeah. I would make a GP appointment. You've put up with it for a long time.

cherryassam · 14/07/2023 00:24

Definitely go to the GP, sounds like a chest infection - Green phlegm is often a symptom. Try and get in before the weekend if at all possible.

Hiccups1 · 14/07/2023 00:26

Thank you everyone, will give them a call in the morning ☺️

Over 6 weeks? You need to see a Dr, NHS recommends GP for a persistent cough of 3 weeks
