NHS Cataract with gas

Hi

Mum is on the waiting list for cataract surgery at her local hospital

Due to her Alzheimer's they will have to knock her out

I know we will be on the waiting list for many months but once you finally get notified of the operation date roughly how long is it from then to the operation ?

Also do they do all the eye tests again before the op?

I presume you have a pre-op due to needing gas

Thanks in advance

Will they actually knock get out, or just sedate her?
I can't remember how long between advice and op, but my brother had his under sedation, about 8 weeks ago.
They didn't look at his eye immediately before the op, but did blood pressure etc..

When it comes to the eye drops for four weeks I can't seem to find anywhere how long you should leave between each one

Normally I could evenly space them but on the days mum goes to day care I can't and they won't do one of the drops

They need to be evenly spaced, especially at the start as they're to prevent problems occurring rather than treating.

Can you nip in during the day at the day care centre?

Not really.

We live 25 miles from DC and I work 10 miles past that

I could do 730am 3,30pm 7.30pm on those days by I'm struggling to do a 4th as she will be asleep

I think I will just have to collect her about 1pm on those days although it is barely worth going for 4 hours in the office

You may also find that she has to have an eye shield taped over her eye overnight to protect it after the op.
